Job Overview:
The Finance Assistant position is crucial for the effective management of financial documentation and support within the NRC's operations in the Jigjiga Area Office. The role involves adhering to NRC policies and guidelines while implementing procedures and activities related to Financial Management. The Finance Assistant will be responsible for organizing and delivering tasks in line with established priorities and standards, ensuring that financial documents are archived, organized, and updated both in hard and soft formats. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to prepare status reports as needed by management. The Finance Assistant will also play a key role in promoting ideas for improvement in the areas of Livelihoods and Security" id="link" class="link">Food Security, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the finance team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Finance Assistant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: archiving, organizing, and updating financial documents; scanning and filing all financial documents in digital format; ensuring proper placement, filing, and labeling of documents; managing soft filing systems; providing vouchers to auditors and ensuring their proper return to file folders; assisting accountants with the filing of monthly financial vouchers; maintaining records for long-term preservation and easy retrieval of documents; scanning documents and vouchers upon request from finance staff; advising users on accessing and retrieving archives; collecting financial documents from field offices regularly; liaising with compliance, audit, and finance departments regarding archives; assisting the tax officer with taxation matters, including document extraction and tax Report Preparation; and performing any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Finance Assistant position should possess a strong set of qualifications, including good written and spoken Somali and spoken English. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is essential, along with creativity and a willingness to try new approaches. A positive and collaborative attitude is necessary, as well as the ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment. The candidate should also have a BA in Accounting & Finance and at least 3 years of relevant progressive experience, preferably in complex and volatile contexts. Previous work experience with satisfactory performance in similar functional areas, particularly with UN or INGOs, is highly desirable. Documented results related to the responsibilities of the position are also required.
Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance. This educational background is essential for understanding financial principles and practices, which are critical for the effective performance of the Finance Assistant role.
Experience:
The position requires at least 3 years of relevant progressive experience in finance or accounting roles. Candidates should have previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts, demonstrating the ability to adapt to challenging environments. Experience with UN or international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) is preferred, as it indicates familiarity with the operational standards and expectations of such organizations.
Languages:
Fluency in Somali is mandatory, both written and spoken, as it is essential for communication within the local context. Good spoken English is also required to facilitate communication with international staff and stakeholders. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.

The Finance Assistant position is a fixed-term contract lasting for 5 months. The role is based in the Jigjiga Area Office, with an expected travel percentage of 15%.
