Job Overview:
The Executive Director for Food and Water Systems (FWS) at CARE will play a pivotal role in leading the organization's efforts to improve food and water systems globally. This position reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Program, Strategy, and Impact (PSI) and is responsible for ensuring that CARE has the necessary vision, team, and results to meet its ambitious goal of serving 75 million community members by 203
- The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for building and leading high-performing teams, as well as a proven track record in scaling evidence-based impact in the sector. The Executive Director will also be tasked with shaping and expanding CARE's portfolio of gender-equal food and water systems initiatives, ensuring that the organization remains at the forefront of this critical area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Executive Director will oversee a team of over 50 staff members, including five senior direct reports. Key responsibilities include:
- Team Management: Collaborating with leaders and Human Resources to build and maintain high-performing teams capable of exceeding deliverables. This involves establishing systems, processes, and a culture that fosters the recruitment, retention, and development of exceptional talent.
- Strategy Creation & Execution: Developing CARE's long-term Food and Water Systems program strategy and ensuring collaboration across various teams, including country offices, Fundraising, advocacy, and technical teams. The Executive Director will work to advance organizational systems and processes to achieve collective goals while addressing risks and resource constraints.
- Deliver Results: Ensuring that quarterly, annual, and long-term results are met. This includes working with teams and partners to deliver ongoing results and serving as a liaison between teams and CARE's leadership to determine necessary pivots for achieving long-term goals in food and water systems.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, with an advanced degree preferred. They should have over 20 years of management experience, including at least 10 years specifically in Food and Water Systems or a related field. A strong track record of building and leading high-performing teams, as well as experience in creating and executing growth strategies, is essential. Fluency in French or Spanish is desired but not mandatory.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required, with an advanced degree being preferred. This educational background should provide a solid foundation in management principles and practices, particularly as they relate to food and water systems.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 20 years of management experience, with at least 10 years dedicated to Food and Water Systems or equivalent experience. Candidates should demonstrate a strong history of building and leading effective teams and implementing successful growth strategies.
Languages:
Fluency in French or Spanish is desired but not required for this position. Proficiency in these languages would be beneficial in enhancing communication and collaboration within diverse teams and stakeholders.
