Job Overview:
The Emergency Response Technical Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of cash and in-kind distribution activities as part of NRC's emergency response efforts. This position requires a proactive individual who can work independently while adhering to NRC's policies and guidelines. The assistant will be responsible for maintaining effective communication with beneficiaries and local authorities, ensuring that all activities are conducted transparently and accountably. The role also involves participating in rapid needs assessments and managing beneficiary registration processes, utilizing tools such as Kobo Collect for Data Collection. The assistant will work closely with the Emergency Response Coordinator and other team members to ensure that all project requirements and technical standards are met, contributing to the overall success of NRC's emergency response initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the implementation of NRC cash and in-kind distribution activities according to project requirements and technical standards.
- Participate in Multi-Sector Rapid Needs Assessments, following established methodologies.
- Maintain direct communication with beneficiaries, local authorities, and community leaders to gather information on IDP movements and new arrivals.
- Conduct assessment surveys for beneficiary registration using Kobo Collect on smartphones.
- Ensure transparent communication with beneficiaries regarding their entitlements, required documentation, selection criteria, and distribution plans.
- Assist in the preparation of distribution lists and participate in the distribution process, verifying and recording beneficiary documentation accurately.
- Compile and submit all necessary distribution documentation to NRC.
- Ensure that all activities are implemented in accordance with NRC guidelines and standards.
- Prepare and develop status reports as required by management. 1
- Promote and share ideas for improvement in the area of expertise.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience working as an Assistant in a humanitarian or recovery context.
- Knowledge and experience in relevant Administration, craft, or technical fields, ideally with a vocational qualification.
- Previous experience in complex and volatile contexts.
- Familiarity with beneficiary registration processes using Kobo Collect.
- Documented results related to the position's responsibilities.
- Fluency in Portuguese and basic knowledge of English.
- Completion of secondary school education is required.
Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to have completed secondary school education. A vocational qualification in a relevant field is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates should possess knowledge and experience in administration or technical fields relevant to the role.
Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience working in humanitarian or recovery contexts, particularly in roles that involve direct interaction with beneficiaries and local authorities. Experience in complex and volatile environments is essential, as is familiarity with beneficiary registration processes using digital tools such as Kobo Collect. Documented results from previous roles will be an advantage.
Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication with beneficiaries and local authorities. Basic knowledge of English is also required to facilitate communication within the organization. Additionally, fluency in local languages spoken in Cabo Delgado, such as Makonde, Emakhuwa, and Kimuane, is highly desirable and will enhance the assistant's effectiveness in the role.
