Job Overview:
The Economic Affairs Officer position is located within the Macroeconomic, Finance and Governance Division (MFGD) of ECA. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Chief of Section, Institutions and Economic Governance (IEGS). The role involves conducting economic or sector Analysis, developing socio-economic databases, and undertaking research on macroeconomic issues. The officer will draft technical papers, prepare reports for intergovernmental bodies, and assist in organizing expert group meetings. The position requires a strong understanding of economic governance and public finance, as well as the ability to analyze data and provide insights for decision-making. The officer will also participate in missions and organize training seminars for national experts, contributing to the implementation of technical cooperation programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Economic Affairs Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Developing socio-economic databases and qualitative information for assignments.
  • Conducting research and analysis on emerging macroeconomic issues.
  • Interpreting and adapting econometric models to analyze trends and policy effects.
  • Drafting inputs for technical papers and analytical studies.
  • Attending meetings to gather information and engage with colleagues.
  • Organizing and servicing expert group meetings and seminars.
  • Preparing speeches and presentations for senior staff.
  • Contributing to reports for intergovernmental bodies and summarizing meetings.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Successful completion of programs in Data Analytics, business analytics, or Data Science is advantageous. Additionally, completion of programs in Econometrics, particularly in time series and panel Data Analysis, is required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in economics or a related field. Candidates with a first-level university degree and additional qualifying work experience may also be considered. Completion of relevant degree and non-degree programs in data analytics or econometrics is highly desirable.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, or related areas is required. Experience in macroeconomic and financial modeling or Financial Analysis is desirable. Candidates should also have at least two years of experience in data analytics or project management, demonstrating a strong understanding of Development Finance challenges.

Languages:
Fluency in English or French is required, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of the other language is desirable, and proficiency in another official United Nations language is considered an advantage.
