Job Overview:
The Economic Affairs Officer position is located within the Finance and Domestic Resource Mobilization Section of the Macroeconomic, Finance, and Governance Division (MFGD) at ECA. The officer will be responsible for conducting economic and sector Analysis, providing intergovernmental support, and facilitating technical cooperation. The role requires the development of socio-economic databases, drafting technical papers, and preparing reports for intergovernmental bodies. The officer will also engage in mobilizing resources for ECA's initiatives and organizing training seminars for national experts. This position is crucial for supporting African member states in their economic transformation efforts and ensuring effective Development Planning and governance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Economic Affairs Officer will undertake various responsibilities, including:
- Developing socio-economic databases and qualitative information for assignments.
- Analyzing economic and financial trends using intelligence tools.
- Drafting inputs for technical papers and analytical studies on Economic Development.
- Attending meetings to gather information and engage with colleagues.
- Preparing reports and summaries for intergovernmental meetings.
- Assisting in organizing panels and seminars on development issues.
- Mobilizing resources for technical cooperation activities.
- Participating in missions related to development issues.
- Organizing training seminars for national experts. 1
- Monitoring and assessing the implementation of technical cooperation projects. 1
- Performing administrative tasks necessary for the work unit's services. 1
- Analyzing data to identify trends and provide insights for decision-making.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in economic and financial research and analysis, with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in relevant fields. Knowledge of economic principles and their application in development programs is essential. Experience in Data Analytics and familiarity with financial market software such as Bloomberg or Reuters is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective planning and organizing skills.
Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in finance, economics, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted. Completion of programs in data analytics, business analytics, or Data Science is an advantage.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economic and financial research, policy formulation, and application of economic principles in development programs. Experience in data analytics or related areas is desirable, as is knowledge of capital market development, particularly in developing countries. A good understanding of project management, including Design and risk management, is also beneficial.
Languages:
Fluency in English or French is required, with knowledge of the other language being desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
