Under the overall guidance of the Head of Office, and direct supervision of the designated supervisor, the driver provides reliable and safe driving services to UNDP Personnel in the Sub Office (SO), consultants, experts and UN staff on mission and other high-ranking UN officials and visitors ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and Security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Duties and Responsibilities

Summary of key functions:
  • Provision of reliable and secure driving services;
  • Proper use of vehicle;
  • Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle;
  • Keep up to date documentation on the vehicles as well as its operation and supplies.
1.  Adhere to UNDP internal standard operating procedures (SOPs); 2.  Full compliance with implementation of all security measures for the passengers and the vehicle during all the trips.

3.  Drive office vehicles for the transport of UNDP Personnel in the SO, other high-ranking officials and visitors; 4.  Deliver and collect mail, documents and other items; 5.  Ensure cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs for preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports; 6. Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tyres, brakes, car washing, etc.; 7. Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, and all other Safety and Security tools like first aid kits, Emergency Trauma Bag (ETB), fire extinguishers and or the fire suppression system, telecommunication system, personal protective equipment, as well as spare parts, and all other necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle; 8. Ensure that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken into consideration in case of involvement in accidents.

9.   Demonstrates effective use of radio communication equipment’s (HF, VHF, UHF).

10.  Perform any other travel duties as requested by the direct supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Secondary Education;
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of work experience as a driver; safe driving record; knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair;
  • Experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable.
Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in Arabic, knowledge of basic English.
