Its mandate is to secure the cooperation of governments and others in locating missing persons. The Senior DNA Analyst is responsible for the day to day Analysis and submission of DNA profiles from either post mortem remains or family reference samples. The position is also responsible for tracking results, re-work and monthly figures. The position is also involved in the preparation of amplification set up sheets.

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the DNA Laboratory Manager, the DNA Analyst main duties and responsibilities are the following:

  • Maintain laboratory competencies or skills and perform lab related duties
  • Track figures, update master lists and outcomes for reporting
  • Ensure service engineers regularly check the equipment in the pre-amplification laboratories
  • Maintain AM and PM PCR laboratory spaces and equipment
  • Calibrate programs for all laboratory pipettes (monitoring, packing, shipping, receiving and exchanging)

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Genetics, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or similar field of science plus 3 years’ experience; or a Masters’ degree plus 2 year experience
    • At least five years of relevant experience
    • Laboratory processing for DNA STR profiling within an ISO17025 environment
    • Experience of using/maintaining/troubleshooting laboratory equipment, including automation, is an asset
    • Extensive experience with GeneMapper ID-X or similar software for Analysis and interpretation of DNA profiles is an asset
    • Experience using DNA matching software e.g. DNAview, Familias and interpretation of statistical analysis
      • Attention to detail
      • Effective organizational skills
      • Good working knowledge of MS applications

        Mandatory Requirements

        • Professional fluency in English. Knowledge of more languages is considered an asset.
        • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Teams
        • Proven ability to interact positively with colleagues regardless of culture, nationality or gender
        • Ability to travel at short notice and to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings
        • Commitment to the underlying objective of helping the authorities and families of the missing to account for missing persons in an impartial and transparent manner

          Benefits

          This position is based in The Hague, The Netherlands. This is a full-time position with a competitive base salary at the TOS 5 level on the ICMP Technical and Operational Support Salary Scale, generous paid leave and extensive health insurance benefits for the incumbent and any eligible dependent.


          The position is not eligible for relocation or expatriate allowances.

          Expected start date: 1 February 2023 or 1 March 2023
