Job Description

SUMMARY

This position is an exciting opportunity working in a professional humanitarian aid organization implementing humanitarian, Emergency and resilience-strengthening programs in over 14 countries. The Director of Technical Sectors position is a leading HQ position, reporting directly to the Chief Humanitarian and Resilience Officer, managing a sub-department of 10 permanent staff, supporting IsraAID missions globally in IsraAID’s work with Vulnerable Populations, recovering from different emergencies.

CONTEXT

IsraAID is an international non-governmental humanitarian aid organization based in Israel. Since we were founded in 2001, our teams have worked in emergency and long-term development settings in more than 50 countries around the world. Our mission is to support people affected by humanitarian crisis. We partner with Local Communities around the world to provide urgent aid, assist in recovery, and reduce the risk of future disasters.

IsraAID HQ is based in Tel Aviv from which it offers support to all IsraAID missions worldwide, emergency and resilience strengthening. The Director of the Technical Sectors will work as part of the programs department offering leadership to IsraAID’s sectoral development, guide and oversee the work of IsraAID’s Heads of sectors, striving to increase the scope, depth and quality of IsraAID’s programming worldwide, its visibility, and reputation.

The position base is flexible to any city IsraAID has an active long-term office in, with the commitment to align with at least 4 working hours daily of IsraAID HQ working schedule. (Colombia, Dominica, Vanuatu, Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Mozambique, Ukraine, additional locations can be considered).

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND COMPETENCIES

  1. Guide and Oversee the successful development of IsraAID sectors’ strategies, modules, guidelines and tools designed and implemented by IsraAID’s technical colleagues.
  2. Identify and develop non-sectoral programmatic tools, modules and guidelines to support the successful Design and implementation of quality programs.
  3. Offer proactive leadership to the IsraAID Programs department.
  4. Representation

Detailed responsibilities:

  1. Guide and Oversee the successful development of IsraAID sectors’ strategies, modules, guidelines and tools designed and implemented by IsraAID’s technical colleagues.
  • Lead the technical sub-department engagement with global trends and global working groups.
  • Offer technical programmatic framework to the heads of sectors in the strategic development of the sector
  • Lead the Technical sub-department, and the respective sectors’ development of annual plans, cross-cutting programmatic and organizational processes
  • Support the development and implementation of an engagement program with IsraAID sectoral communities.
  1. Identify and develop non-sectoral programmatic tools, modules and guidelines to support the successful design and implementation of quality programs.
  • Take leadership in the development of appropriate programmatic, non-sectoral tools (Guidelines, modules and SoPs) for the development, implementation, monitoring and closing of programs in emergency and stable environments, unifying IsraAID language, approach and quality programming.
  • Participate in IsraAID ‘Learning working group’
  • Encourage collaboration with academia, international partners, and piloting of new programmatic models.
  1. Offer proactive leadership to the IsraAID Programs department.
  • Act as the direct manager of IsraAID’s Head of sectors and technical representatives.
  • Participate in programs department leadership Coordination forum
  • Represent the programs department at Senior Management discussions as necessary.
  • Align and lead structural and cultural organizational global processes.
  1. Representation
  • Raise the profile of IsraAID, and its brand through active participation in Interaction forums, and external events where needed.
  • Serve as an advocate for IsraAID programs globally.

Qualifications:

Required:

  1. Minimum of 7 years of proven experience in leadership roles overseeing the implementation of humanitarian programs in the global south, crisis zone or emergency settings.
  2. Proven experience in developing conceptual frameworks, modules and guiding tools for programmatic development.
  3. Proven background in staff guidance and supervision.
  4. Legal working status in the employment location.
  5. Fluent written and spoken English
  6. Ability to travel to visit missions, meetings or conferences, at least 6 weeks per year.
  7. If based out of the HQ, ability to travel once a quarter to Israel.
  8. Great interpersonal skills

CONDITIONS

1. Full time position.

2. Office working days Sunday- Thursday.

3. Commitment to align with Israel working hours as required, and no less than 5 hours daily.

4. If home based- willingness to travel at least 3 times per year to the HQ.
