Responsibilities

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Director of Strategic Business Initiatives & Stakeholder Communications in the Office of the CEO (OCEO) at our National Center office located in Dallas, Texas .

The Director of Strategic Business Initiatives & Stakeholder Communications in the Office of the CEO (OCEO) will serve as a liaison to signature partners to propel the impact of the American Heart Association. Reporting to the Chief of Staff to the CEO, this self-starter will have responsibility for serving as the relationship manager between these significant stakeholders and key staff, including the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Science and Medical Officer, with AHA leadership volunteers and with other partners, all with a goal of accessing the full resources of each organization in the partnership to maximize impact and outcomes.

Essential Job Duties:

Stakeholder Relations/Communications, Patient Engagement Strategies and Signature Partnerships

  • Partner with the CEO and Chief of Staff to the CEO to develop stakeholder presentations, keynote speaking remarks, internal communications/messaging and other visual graphics.
  • Serve as a staff partner to the CEO, Chief of Staff to the CEO and other senior staff and leadership volunteers to provide input and oversight for leveraging new and existing business relationships.
  • Serve as a staff partner to the CEO, Chief of Staff to the CEO and other senior staff and leadership volunteers to provide input and oversight for communications plans for key stakeholders.
  • Identifying, networking, recruiting and engaging partners that are uniquely positioned with influence and reach to amplify the AHA's efforts to achieving our goals for the research collaborative.
  • Serving as the day-to-day liaison between AHA and partner organizations; managing ongoing relationships with external audiences, as appropriate, including but not limited to strategic corporate alliances, healthcare professionals, researchers, universities, patients and volunteers.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal business units of AHA including Science Operations, Research Enterprises, Development, Communications, Advocacy, Quality Improvement, Corporate Relations, Foundations and Major Gifts.
  • Monitoring and evaluating current and emerging partnerships’ progress in relation to goals and creating strategic account plans that drive to mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Create and lead the implementation of customized account plans with deliverables, success metrics and timelines.
  • Develop Memorandums of Understanding and/or master agreements in conjunction with AHA Legal department.
  • Develop communication and Marketing collateral in conjunction with the Director of OCEO Communications and the core Communications team as necessary.
  • Identify and build new opportunities with these stakeholders to bring added value to these collaborative relationships.
  • Identify new partners that can serve as Strategic Business partners and/or Signature Partners.
  • Develop briefing documents and other communication tools to share key messaging and progress with senior executives and volunteer leaderships.
Planning, Development and Evaluation

  • Ensures congruency with AHA strategic plans and health strategies and revenue business plans.
  • Works collaboratively with senior staff and leadership volunteers to develop agendas, materials, presentations, reports, evaluation documents and recognition plans for stakeholders as needed.
  • Outlining and maintaining timelines, action plans and budgets for assigned projects to ensure thoughtful, timely development.
  • Creating project presentations for external stakeholders and AHA Senior Team leaders covering program and campaign strategy, direction, timing and metrics.
  • Tracking and developing evaluation/ROI reports for internal and external customers to demonstrate success of executed programs.
Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Public Health, Science or Communications is required. Masters or graduate degree preferred.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years’ experience:
  • With strategic partnerships and/or social impact ventures.
  • In project or marketing management, especially with patient and caregiver populations in a clinical study and/or healthcare environment.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Strong understanding of building partnership plans that span the course of several years.
  • Strong understanding of budget Administration and operations.
  • Knowledge of clinical research, patient preference registries, Health Promotion/Health Education and public health principles is desired.
  • Knowledge of voluntary health organizations and experience in group process is highly desirable.
  • Must have excellent presentation and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 30% of the time.
