Job Overview:
The Director of Health Department at UNRWA is responsible for overseeing the Health Services provided to Palestine refugees, focusing on infectious disease epidemiology and public health strategies. The role involves analyzing health data to inform decision-making, identifying trends in infectious diseases, and implementing measures to control outbreaks. The position requires a strong background in epidemiology and public health, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to enhance health outcomes for the refugee population. The successful candidate will be expected to lead initiatives that improve Data Collection and Analysis, ensuring that health interventions are evidence-based and effective.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support Systems Development: Conduct a thorough evaluation of existing data collection, analysis, and presentation frameworks at UNRWA Headquarters and field offices, and develop improved mechanisms for identifying infectious disease hazards.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, organize, and analyze health-related data, employing statistical methods to derive meaningful insights.
- Outbreak Investigation: Assist in the investigation and response to infectious disease outbreaks, determining sources and contributing factors, and implementing control measures.
- Risk Assessment: Assess risks associated with health conditions and behaviors in populations, particularly regarding infectious diseases, to guide public health strategies.
- Reporting: Prepare comprehensive reports based on Data Analysis and outbreak investigations, ensuring clarity and accuracy in communication.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments and external partners to coordinate health interventions and share findings.
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in epidemiology, public health, international health, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in epidemiology, information management, quantitative methods, and Disease Surveillance, with at least 2 years of international experience outside of the candidate's home country.
- Proven analytical skills and experience in report preparation.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to synthesize complex information clearly and concisely.
- Outstanding communication skills, with a strong command of spoken and written English.
Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as epidemiology, public health, or international health from a recognized institution. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of health data analysis and public health strategies.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in epidemiology, information management, and disease surveillance. Candidates should have field experience in managing epidemics or public Health Emergencies, with at least 2 years of this experience gained at an international level outside of their home country. This level of experience is crucial for effectively addressing the health challenges faced by Palestine refugees.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in Arabic is considered an advantage. Strong communication skills in both languages will facilitate effective collaboration and reporting.

The position is expected to last from July to December 2024, with a total remuneration of US$ 45,00
