The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Director, Education in our Healthcare Business Solutions department based out of our National Center office located in Dallas, TX! The Director, Education is responsible for continuously increasing the effectiveness of lifesaving CPR, first aid, and other healthcare learning programs produced by the Healthcare Business Solutions department. These programs support the education and training needs of over 22 million students (healthcare providers and laypersons), instructors, and faculty each year around the world, through various modes of delivery (instructor-led training, e-learning, simulation, books/e-books, video, websites, etc. The Director, Education develops the strategic vision for the department’s educational methodology; guides the instructional Design of learning programs and products; collaborates with senior staff, volunteers, consultants, and other educational authorities and organizations to evaluate the educational efficacy of AHA programs; tracks specific educational outcomes and performance measures; develops strategic plans for CE/CME opportunities; and oversees staff and budgets supporting educational programs.

  • Manages and develops the Education team. Oversees, evaluates, and maintains the documentation and procedures supporting educational functions. Manages the budgets supporting the Education team’s operations and instructor development
  • Designs, documents, and supports an educational methodology governing all learning programs produced by the department. Provides thought leadership and strategic oversight for the department’s educational vision. Advises on research, industry standards, and educational concepts outlined in AHA Guidelines and Statements and guides the development of curriculum and learning objectives
  • Engages with senior staff and volunteer leadership to identify ways to improve program performance, User Experience, knowledge retention, and ultimately patient outcomes through research, outcomes assessment, Strategic Partnerships, and innovation. Oversees the development, testing, and implementation of new educational concepts in learning programs. Develops recommendations to continuously increase the quality of the AHA Instructor Network
  • Maps, tracks, and measures specific learner outcomes and performance measures that support the mission of the AHA. Identifies gaps between organizational goals and organizational performance. Oversees expert Analysis of educational outcomes and reports information proactively to senior staff and volunteer leadership
  • Provides strategic management of program evaluation and enables the Program Evaluation Task Force to achieve its goals. Assesses and leverages volunteer skill sets and interests by developing and utilizing roles in meaningful ways. Guides consensus among volunteers
  • Oversees work produced by internal and external e-learning developers. Designs and builds print and digital training products as needed. Ensures consistent, efficient, and accessible educational design across all programs
  • Provides strategic oversight and expertise to the development of timely, accurate, and consistent (1) exams and test bank, (2) skills testing and evaluation tools, (3) updates to the Instructor Network as needed, and (4) development and promulgation of national and international training policies for all Healthcare Business Solutions courses
  • Provides strategic oversight for the department’s Continuing Education programs
  • Maintains awareness of new research, developments, and technologies in education and healthcare training. Continuously upgrades personal knowledge of products, content, audiences, and science relative to AHA/HBS educational programs

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Five (5) to Eight (8) years of relevant experience
  • Successful experience in educational research, Instructional Design, implementation of educational methodology, and curriculum management
  • Demonstrable success in leading large learning programs with strong results
  • Emphasis on leadership competencies; ability to use informal authority to influence at all levels; ability to effectively assess and leverage skill sets and interests of team members and volunteers
  • Formal training in instructional design, educational psychology, adult learning theory, and e-learning
  • Course development with use of e-learning authoring tools
  • Experience working with informational databases and the ability to lead functional improvements to systems and tools
  • Understanding of continuing education requirements and CE/CME Program Implementation
Preferred Experience:
  • Master’s degree preferred
