Job Overview:
The Development Director position at the American Heart Association is a pivotal role that focuses on generating revenue through Fundraising campaigns, specifically the Triangle Heart Ball and Hard Hats with Heart initiatives. This position is situated in a fast-paced sales environment where the primary responsibility is to drive revenue in support of the AHA's mission. The Director will be expected to build and maintain relationships with corporate partners and individual donors, ensuring that revenue goals are met. The role also involves recruiting and managing volunteers, coordinating events, and collaborating with internal and external partners to promote the AHA's campaigns. The successful candidate will have access to various resources, including training and support, to help them succeed in their role and contribute to the AHA's mission.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Development Director will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at generating revenue for the AHA. Key duties include:
- Generating revenue by prospecting and securing local corporate sponsorships and individual donations.
- Achieving revenue goals by building and maintaining relationships with corporate partners and donors.
- Conducting research to build and maintain a pipeline of prospective sponsors and donors that align with campaign goals and the AHA's mission.
- Developing and presenting proposals and materials to secure revenue and Volunteer engagement.
- Recruiting and managing executive volunteer leadership, volunteer committees, and day-of-the-event volunteers.
- Coordinating the event auction, leading a committee of volunteers to solicit auction items and prepare packages that will raise funds.
- Leading efforts to engage new individual members for the Cor Vitae giving society, including planning and implementing regular engagement events.
- Planning and implementing events in collaboration with internal and external partners.
- Working with the Communications Director to support and promote campaign communication plans.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Development Director position should possess the following qualifications:
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in fundraising, sales, or a similar field.
- Ability to travel daily up to 30% within the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill market.
- Physical capability to lift and/or move large objects, with the understanding that heavier items may require assistance.
- Basic knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Preferred qualifications include a university/college degree or equivalent experience, experience managing high-level leaders at the C-Suite level, and knowledge of corporate and community networks.
Educational Background:
While a university or college degree is preferred, equivalent experience in fundraising or sales may also be considered. The educational background should ideally align with the responsibilities of the position, providing the candidate with the necessary skills to engage with corporate partners and donors effectively.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of relevant experience in fundraising, sales, or a related field. This experience should demonstrate the ability to generate revenue, build relationships, and manage volunteer efforts effectively. Experience in a fast-paced sales environment is highly desirable, as is familiarity with corporate sponsorship and donor engagement.
Languages:

This position is full-time and offers a competitive base salary with the potential for performance-based incentives of up to 25% of the base pay.
