Job Overview:
The Development Director position is a pivotal role within the American Heart Association, specifically focused on the Northeast Ohio market, which encompasses the greater Akron, Canton, and Youngstown areas. This position is designed for a dynamic individual who will lead fundraising initiatives, particularly in the Go Red for Women and Heart Ball campaigns. The Director will be responsible for recruiting and managing fundraising volunteers, cultivating relationships with individual donors, and implementing special events that align with the AHA's mission. The role requires a proactive approach to generating revenue through corporate sponsorships and individual donations, necessitating regular travel between various markets. The Development Director will work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure the success of fundraising efforts and will have access to extensive resources and training to support their professional growth.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Development Director will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
- Generating revenue by identifying and securing local corporate sponsorships and individual donations.
- Achieving revenue goals through the development and maintenance of relationships with corporate partners and donors.
- Conducting research to build a pipeline of prospective sponsors and donors that align with campaign goals and the AHA's mission.
- Developing and presenting proposals and materials to secure funding and Volunteer engagement.
- Recruiting and managing executive volunteer leadership and volunteer committees for events.
- Coordinating event auctions, including leading volunteer committees to solicit auction items and prepare fundraising packages.
- Engaging new individual members for the Cor Vitae giving society and planning regular engagement events.
- Collaborating with internal and external partners to plan and implement successful events.
- Working with the Communications Director to support campaign communication strategies.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Development Director position should possess the following qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in fundraising, sales, or a similar field.
- Proven ability to travel locally up to 75% of the time, with reliable transportation required.
- Physical capability to lift and move large objects, with the understanding that assistance may be needed for heavier items.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is essential, with a basic understanding of software tools necessary for effective communication and reporting. Preferred qualifications include experience managing relationships with high-level leaders at the C-Suite level and knowledge of corporate and community networks.
Educational Background:
While a university or college degree is preferred, equivalent experience in fundraising or related fields will also be considered. The emphasis is on practical experience and demonstrated success in similar roles, particularly in non-profit or community-focused organizations.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least three years of relevant experience in fundraising, sales, or a comparable field. This experience should include a track record of successfully generating revenue and building relationships with corporate sponsors and individual donors.
