The Statistics and Data Directorate (SDD) is a key component of the OECD, employing over 80 staff members dedicated to statistical work across diverse policy areas, developing innovative metrics and digital tools, and leading the advancement of international statistical standards.

Job Overview:
The Deputy Director of the Statistics and Data Directorate (SDD) will play a crucial role in supporting the Director in executing the OECD’s Programme of Work and Budget while advancing the Strategic Orientations set by the Secretary-General. This position requires a dynamic and innovative leader with a strong understanding of the OECD's statistical and data agenda. The Deputy Director will be responsible for ensuring the impact of the OECD’s statistical work, providing strategic direction, and collaborating closely with the Office of the Secretary-General and other directorates. The role involves overseeing the implementation of SDD’s communication strategies, managing various bodies within the directorate, and contributing to the development of horizontal initiatives that advance OECD advice in member and partner countries. The ideal candidate will thrive in a multidisciplinary environment, demonstrating innovative strategic thinking and diplomatic sensitivity.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Deputy Director will have several key responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the implementation of the OECD’s Programme of Work and Budget and advancing the Strategic Orientations of the Secretary-General in the area of Statistics and Data.
  • Contributing to the OECD smart data strategy to meet the demand for high-quality, granular, and timely data.
  • Keeping SDD at the forefront of measurement tools and frameworks, enhancing the OECD’s position in developing best statistical practices and methodologies.
  • Providing guidance on methodologies and concepts to address analytical and policy questions related to digitalisation, globalisation, and environment-economy linkages.
  • Overseeing SDD’s communication and global relations strategies, including statistical country reviews.
  • Promoting collaboration with the Secretary-General's Office and other Directorates, ensuring coherent strategies regarding statistics and data.
  • Representing SDD at high-level meetings and conferences, building relationships with national authorities, academia, and research institutes.
  • Participating in recruitment processes, staff development, and Performance Management within SDD.
  • Contributing to the overall management and Administration of SDD, maintaining high standards of Financial Management. 1
  • Adhering to and promoting the OECD's Code of Conduct and contributing to corporate management reforms.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in statistics, Econometrics, economics, mathematics, or a relevant discipline. A minimum of 15 years of experience in economic statistics is preferred, ideally gained in government or another international organization. Candidates should have a significant interest in policy-focused research and the development of statistics that support integrated analyses of social, economic, and environmental policies. A solid understanding of national and international statistical systems, as well as the challenges in Data Collection and dissemination, is essential. Proven experience in conducting relations at a senior level and the ability to influence decisions at both national and international levels are required. Strong communication and presentation skills, along with the ability to engage with diverse audiences, are also necessary.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in statistics, econometrics, economics, mathematics, or another relevant discipline is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of Data Analysis and statistical methodologies that will be applied in the role.

Experience:
The position requires at least 15 years of relevant experience in economic statistics, preferably within a governmental or international organization context. Candidates should demonstrate a significant interest in policy-focused research and the development of statistics that support integrated analyses of social, economic, and environmental policies. Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and engaging with high-level stakeholders is also essential.

Languages:
Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) is mandatory, along with knowledge of the other language and a commitment to achieving a good working level. Knowledge of additional languages would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse international partners.

Additional Notes:
The position is a three-year fixed-term appointment with the possibility of renewal. The closing date for applications is 23h59 on 03 Nov 2024 (Paris time). The monthly salary starts at 13,645.46 EUR, plus allowances based on eligibility, and is exempt from French income tax. The OECD has a mandatory retirement age of 6
