Job Overview:
The Country Director position at NRC entails overall responsibility for the country operation in Sudan, particularly in the context of the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The role requires the development and execution of a comprehensive country strategy, ensuring that all in-country activities align with NRC's regional and global strategies. The Country Director will lead the Country Management Group (CMG) and oversee the implementation of programs aimed at addressing the needs of over 10.7 million internally displaced individuals and millions facing acute hunger. The position demands a strategic approach to Humanitarian Response, advocacy, and collaboration with local and global partners to maximize impact and effectiveness in a complex and volatile environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Country Director will be responsible for national representation and Coordination, ensuring that NRC's mission and values are upheld in all operations. Key responsibilities include the development of a new Country Strategy, which will be revised annually to adapt to changing circumstances. The Country Director will oversee all personnel and in-country activities, ensuring compliance with NRC and donor requirements. Specific duties involve managing operational activities across finance, logistics, Human Resources, and ICT, as well as leading security measures in complex environments. The role also requires influencing key decision-makers, including government and donors, to advocate for the needs of displaced populations and promote innovative solutions in challenging contexts.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of experience in a senior management or Country Director role within a humanitarian or recovery context. Proven results related to the responsibilities of the position are essential, along with a strong understanding of the humanitarian sector and the ability to lead teams effectively. Knowledge of the East Africa region or similar contexts is desirable, as is experience in budget management and operational oversight. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to accountability and impact, with a track record of delivering programs on time and within budget.
Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in International Relations, humanitarian studies, or a related field. Advanced degrees may be preferred, particularly for candidates with extensive experience in senior management roles within humanitarian organizations.
