Job Overview:
The Community Volunteer position is a vital role within the Prevention of Marine Litter in the Caribbean Sea (PROMAR) project, which is implemented by UNEP’s Cartagena Convention Secretariat and Caribbean Environment Program. The primary function of this role is to lead social media and communications activities across five Caribbean countries, including Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Guyana, British Virgin Islands, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. The volunteer will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the project's social media presence, creating engaging content, and fostering community interaction. This position requires creativity, strong communication skills, and a passion for environmental issues, particularly marine litter prevention. The volunteer will work closely with local partners and stakeholders to promote circular economy solutions and raise awareness about marine litter issues. The role is designed to not only support the project's objectives but also to provide the volunteer with valuable experience in environmental communications and Community Engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Community Volunteer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: 1. Maintaining established social media channels by creating 2-3 posts per week for each platform (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), curating images and videos, and monitoring engagement daily. 2. Supporting the PROMAR website by identifying content updates and attending local events to report on them. 3. Performing administrative tasks such as submitting quarterly reports on objectives and attending monthly PROMAR meetings to provide updates. The volunteer will also be expected to engage with followers, respond to comments and messages, and actively seek out relevant accounts and events to enhance the project's social media presence. This role requires a proactive approach to community engagement and a commitment to promoting the project's goals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Community Volunteer position should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and have a good understanding of social Media Platforms and their functionalities. Familiarity with content creation tools and graphic Design software is a plus. The ideal candidate should be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as part of a team. A passion for environmental issues, particularly marine conservation and waste management, is essential. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate the ability to engage with diverse audiences and stakeholders effectively.

Educational Background:
A background in communications, environmental science, social sciences, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of environmental issues, particularly those related to marine litter and circular economy solutions. Relevant coursework or experience in social Media Management, Public Relations, or Community Outreach will be advantageous.

Experience:
While prior experience in a similar role is not mandatory, any experience related to social media management, community engagement, or environmental advocacy will be beneficial. The position is suitable for recent graduates or individuals looking to gain practical experience in environmental communications and Project Management.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and social media content will be created in English. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the Caribbean Region, such as Spanish or French, would be considered an asset but is not required.
