Job Overview:
The Communications Officer Intern position at Catholic Relief Services (CRS) under the Restore Africa project in Malawi is designed to support the production, processing, and storage of marketing and communications materials. This role is crucial for increasing the visibility of the Restore Africa Programme, which aims to raise awareness about land degradation, Climate Change, and the livelihoods of smallholder farming families. The intern will work closely with the Communications Officers to create content that aligns with the Restore Africa Communication Strategy, ensuring consistent messaging and a strong brand identity. The intern will also help in documenting and promoting agroforestry and evergreening practices, contributing to the overall mission of improving livelihoods and resilience to climate change in Malawi.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Communications Officer, including: collecting and collating project baseline media in collaboration with Implementing Partner communications teams; identifying 'hero farmers' for tracking throughout the project; developing templates for information collection; conducting interviews and capturing photos/videos; organizing and indexing all collected information in cloud storage; providing marketing and communications support for events, including creating signage, handouts, and talking points; writing, editing, and compiling success stories for monthly sharing with the Global Evergreening Alliance (GEA); updating communication material templates in accordance with the Restore Africa style guide; and contributing project updates and news to CRS internal social Media Platforms.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Media, Communications, Journalism, or a related field with a focus on content creation and management. Demonstrated skills in photography and videography are essential, along with good writing skills in English. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and responsible use of social media is required. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, is strongly desired. A willingness to learn and an interest in media for development are also important attributes for this role.
Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Media, Communications, Journalism, or a related area is required for this position. The focus should be on content creation and management, equipping the candidate with the necessary skills to effectively contribute to the communications efforts of the Restore Africa project.
Experience:
The position is designed for an intern, so prior professional experience is not mandatory. However, any relevant experience in media, communications, or related fields will be considered an asset. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong interest in media for development and a willingness to learn and grow within the role.
Languages:
The primary language required for this position is English, with good writing skills being essential. While not mandatory, proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage, particularly if they are relevant to the communities served by the Restore Africa project.
