Job Description

Chemonics seeks a Communications and Design Specialist for its Operations, Finance and Compliance Division (OFC) within the Global Health and Supply Chain Office (GHSCO), located in Arlington, VA. The Communications and Design (C&D) Specialist works closely with staff, leadership, and communications stakeholders in the GHSCO. A strong writer with sound judgment and the ability to think creatively, the specialist promotes Chemonics’ global health and supply chain communications objectives by supporting internal and External Communications and outreach efforts. The specialist writes high-quality content ensuring adherence to USAID and Chemonics’ Style Guide, tools, and templates, supports our external outreach goals by promoting our work on Social Media and through various mediums such as blogs, videos, and podcasts, and supports strategic corporate and project initiatives as needed. The specialist may supervise or mentor associates and/or interns. The specialist reports directly to the C&D department Director. Responsibilities include:
  • Lead communication and outreach initiatives and planning, under the mentorship of a director, that increase visibility of Chemonics’ global health and supply chain work
  • Ensure project and divisional goals and strategies are integrated into communications activities and plans
  • Identify, research, and write relevant and engaging content for target audiences on Chemonics' and external outlets, including Chemonics’ website, social media including LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, and industry or mainstream news outlets
  • Interview executives and senior technical experts for the purpose of creating content for external audiences
  • Help oversee daily Administration of specific communication tools, such as CoSchedule, Microsoft Teams, and various social media outlets
  • Work with other stakeholders to develop appropriate tools, templates, and visuals
  • Design and deliver communications-related trainings to home and field office staff
  • Conduct short-term communications assignments to support projects with communications planning and strategy, reporting, and other implementation activities, as needed
  • Support new business efforts throughout the company
  • Mentor and may supervise associates, consultants, and/or interns
  • Foster and demonstrate a workplace inclusive of creating opportunity, serving others, building trust, innovation, and exceeding expectations
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required in communications, Marketing, international development, or related field
  • Minimum three years of experience in strategic communications, Knowledge Management, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience writing story-driven content about complex technical subjects in a variety of formats (e.g., newsletters, success stories, news stories, op-eds/blogs, videos, photo essays, podcasts, one-pagers)
  • Sensitivity to diverse audiences and demonstrated good judgement about messaging
  • Passionate, results-driven, and organized, with an attention to detail. A self-starter—with the ability to work independently and in ambiguous and changing environments—who can create and deliver strategic communications plans, including an ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and think creatively
  • Experience working with diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Experience in creating digital strategies and managing content for social media
  • Proficiency in MS Office (required), Adobe Photoshop (highly desired), Adobe Premiere and/or After Effects, or other video editing software (highly desired but not required)
  • Willingness to travel and work abroad a minimum of 4-8 weeks per year
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English required; proficiency in a second language helpful
