Job Posting Organization:ALIMA, established in 2015, is a humanitarian organization that operates in various countries, including Cameroon. The organization focuses on providing medical assistance, Nutrition, and vaccination projects in regions affected by conflict and crises. ALIMA collaborates with local NGOs and has a significant presence in the Health Sector, aiming to improve healthcare access and quality for vulnerable populations. The organization employs a diverse team of expatriates and nationals, with a total of 154 staff members in Cameroon, including 16 expatriates and 138 nationals. ALIMA's mission is to respond to urgent health needs and support the resilience of communities affected by humanitarian crises.
Job Overview:
The position of Cheffe de Mission involves overseeing ALIMA's operations in the Extrême-Nord region of Cameroon, which is characterized by significant Security challenges and humanitarian needs. The Cheffe de Mission will be responsible for strategic planning, Coordination of medical and nutritional projects, and ensuring the safety of staff and beneficiaries. The role requires strong leadership skills to manage a diverse team and collaborate with local and international partners. The Cheffe de Mission will also engage in negotiations with local authorities and stakeholders to facilitate Humanitarian Access and ensure the effective implementation of projects. This position demands a proactive approach to addressing the complex humanitarian situation in the region, including responding to emergencies and adapting strategies to meet evolving needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage ALIMA's operations in the Extrême-Nord region, ensuring the effective implementation of health and nutrition projects. 2. Develop and maintain relationships with local authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and support for ALIMA's mission. 3. Ensure the safety and security of staff and beneficiaries by implementing security protocols and conducting regular risk assessments. 4. Oversee project planning, monitoring, and evaluation to ensure alignment with ALIMA's objectives and donor requirements. 5. Manage the budget and resources allocated to the mission, ensuring transparency and accountability in Financial Management. 6. Coordinate with medical and nutrition teams to ensure high-quality service delivery and adherence to best practices. 7. Represent ALIMA in coordination meetings and forums, advocating for the needs of affected populations and promoting ALIMA's work. 8. Provide leadership and support to staff, fostering a positive work environment and encouraging professional development. 9. Monitor the humanitarian situation in the region and adapt strategies as necessary to respond to emerging needs and challenges. 10. Prepare reports and documentation for donors and stakeholders, highlighting achievements and challenges faced by the mission.
Required Qualifications:
1. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar leadership role within an international NGO, preferably in a humanitarian context. 2. Proven experience in security management and humanitarian negotiation. 3. Strong understanding of health and nutrition programming in Emergency settings. 4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment. 5. Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and lead diverse teams. 6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
Educational Background:
A relevant degree in public health, International Relations, humanitarian studies, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in Humanitarian Response or project management are highly desirable.
Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2 years of experience as a mission leader or in a similar role within an international NGO. Experience in managing security in volatile environments and working in complex humanitarian settings is essential.
Languages:
Fluency in both French and English, written and spoken, is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the region is an asset.
Additional Notes:
The contract duration is 12 months, with a start date in January 2025. The salary will be based on ALIMA's salary scale, taking into account the candidate's experience. ALIMA provides coverage for travel expenses, accommodation, and medical insurance from the first day of the contract.
