Through our social media, we stimulate a daily conversation with millions of people worldwide.

Under the overall management of the Chief of Media Services and the direct supervision of the Social Media and Web Coordinator, the Consultant shall:
  • Produce original content for UNESCO’s social media channels, proactively creating for the different platforms messages and multimedia content (posts, images, cards, GIFs, short videos).
  • Ensure the production of social media content for use on UNESCO’s main social media channels is in line with the objectives and deadlines established on the Social Media Policy.
  • Provide a Coordination function with the Social Media Focal points in the sectors and field offices.
  • Contribute to the reviewing and updating of UNESCO’s social media toolkit.
  • Work with social media producers on the production of content. This would include work in following trending topics on Social Media Platforms and to advise on the communication strategy ensuring a stronger dissemination of our core narrative; drafting narrative text for social and story-telling through images and video; analyzing reactions from our various communities on social media.
  • Maintaining consistency of messages across the organisation and across channels.
  • Work on various social media campaigns, interacting with sector focal points, ensuring priority audiences and stakeholders are properly defined and engaged through audience centric messaging.
  • Produce reports based on the analytics of UNESCO's posts and campaigns on social media.
  • Participate in relevant strategic meetings for ongoing enhancement of UNESCO’s social media and web outreach. The Consultant will maintain a close working relationship with colleagues working on the social media platforms of the other UNESCO official languages and will contribute to the development of UNESCO content in short video form.
  • And other duties as assigned within the framework of UNESCO's social media and web platforms.

  • A university Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, communications, Marketing, media or social science or related field is required or equivalent post-secondary school studies in a certificate or degree program.

  • A minimum of two years experience in managing social media accounts and creating content is required.
  • Experience working with and on diverse social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.
  • Experience in social reporting, analyzing native metrics, creating reports, adjusting strategy and making results-based recommendations.

  • Excellent writing skills, capable of writing simply with a conversational style.
  • Strong attention to detail, great time management skills, and proven ability to work in a highly organized way and meet deadlines.
  • Personable team player who thrives on working in a diverse team.

  • Fluency in English and good knowledge of French are required. Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
  • Creativity and capacity to convert complex topics into easy-to-understand content adapted for social media.
  • Experience in producing high quality web content and web stories; and in supporting an editorial team in ensuring publishing of web content.
  • Experience with image editing software such as Photoshop and/or Illustrator.
  • Experience with video editing software (such as Premier) and online video editing platforms such as Wibbitz, Lumen5, Wochit, or similar.
  • Experience in social media management tools, such as Hootsuite, and online collaboration tools, such as Trello.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment and working with colleagues across different regions and time zones.
