Job Overview:
The Associate Economic Affairs Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the research and Analysis of digital technology and development, particularly in the context of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD). The officer will be responsible for collecting and interpreting data related to global digital data governance, focusing on interoperability and secure data flows. This position requires the preparation of analytical studies, briefing notes, and reports for intergovernmental bodies, as well as assisting in the organization of meetings and panels. The role demands a strong understanding of economic theories and the ability to communicate complex information effectively to non-specialists. The officer will also contribute to technical cooperation projects aimed at enhancing Economic Development through data governance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Associate Economic Affairs Officer include conducting economic and sector analysis, contributing to research on digital technology, and preparing analytical studies and background research. The officer will assist in organizing and servicing the CSTD, including preparing for panel meetings and coordinating with consultants. Responsibilities also include preparing inputs for reports to intergovernmental bodies, monitoring and assessing technical cooperation projects, and performing various administrative tasks necessary for the delivery of the work unit's services. The officer will be expected to undertake training activities and contribute to the overall goals of the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong knowledge of economic theories and their application, as well as the ability to conduct research and analyze data. The position requires excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. The officer should demonstrate professionalism, efficiency, and a commitment to Gender Equality in all areas of work. The ability to tailor communication to different audiences and to engage in two-way communication is essential.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in economics or a related field is required. Candidates with a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be considered. Additionally, candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Recruitment Examination (NCRE), or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P) may be accepted with a first-level university degree and no experience.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in Economic Research and analysis, policy formulation, or related areas is required. Experience in Project Implementation, monitoring, and assessment is desirable, as is experience in research and policy-oriented work related to data governance.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable, which may enhance the candidate's competitiveness for the position.

This is a temporary position available for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on the continuation of need, availability of the post, and satisfactory performance.
