Job Overview:
The Associate Economic Affairs Officer will play a crucial role in conducting economic and sector Analysis, particularly focusing on digital technology and development. This includes collecting and interpreting data related to global digital data governance, ensuring interoperability of data systems, and facilitating safe and secure data flows across borders. The officer will prepare analytical studies, briefing notes, and reports for intergovernmental bodies, contributing to discussions on economic issues at the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD). The role also involves supporting technical cooperation projects aimed at enhancing Economic Development, monitoring their implementation, and providing administrative support as needed. The position requires a proactive approach to research and analysis, with an emphasis on clear communication and collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Associate Economic Affairs Officer include: 1. Conducting research and analysis on digital technology and development, focusing on data governance and interoperability. 2. Collecting and evaluating qualitative and quantitative data from various sources. 3. Preparing briefing notes and first drafts of analytical studies for substantive papers. 4. Assisting in organizing and servicing the CSTD, including preparation for panel meetings and Coordination with consultants. 5. Preparing inputs for reports to intergovernmental bodies and summarizing meetings. 6. Compiling data for technical cooperation project proposals and monitoring their implementation. 7. Performing various administrative tasks to support the work unit's services. 8. Engaging in training activities to enhance professional development.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of economic theories and their practical applications. They should demonstrate the ability to conduct research, analyze data, and write comprehensive reports. The role requires a commitment to gender perspectives and ensuring equal participation in all areas of work. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in economics or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. Candidates with a first-level university degree and no experience may be considered if they have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination or similar examinations.
Experience:
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in Economic Research and analysis, policy formulation, or related areas is required. Experience in Project Implementation, monitoring, and assessment is desirable, as is experience in research and policy-oriented work related to data governance.
Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in a multilingual environment.

This is a temporary position available for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on the continuation of need, availability of the post, and satisfactory performance.
