Established to promote economic development through private sector investment, IFC operates in over 100 countries worldwide. The organization aims to leverage its capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities that contribute to the reduction of extreme poverty and the enhancement of shared prosperity on a livable planet. IFC's mission is closely aligned with the goals of sustainable development, particularly in the context of climate change, where it seeks to drive growth and employment through private sector investment in climate-smart initiatives.

Job Overview:
The (Senior) Operations Officer will play a pivotal role within the Climate Business Department (CBD) at IFC, contributing to the development of strategies that align with the World Bank Group's (WBG) Climate Change Action Plan. This position involves engaging with key stakeholders, including the Board and external partners, to foster dialogue on climate-related issues and enhance understanding of IFC's approach to climate finance. The officer will be responsible for monitoring market developments and best practices to ensure that IFC remains a leader in climate finance and Paris Alignment. The role requires a strategic mindset, combining policy development, stakeholder engagement, and technical expertise to drive climate-smart initiatives that support long-term growth and resilience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The (Senior) Operations Officer will lead the implementation of CBD’s Strategic Gameplan, which encompasses four interconnected workstreams:
  • Policy and Strategy: Coordinate CBD’s contributions to IFC and WBG climate strategies, drive internal policy coherence, and shape IFC’s positioning through stakeholder input and collaboration.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Map and prioritize key stakeholders, support CBD leadership in Board engagement, and develop strategies to strengthen relationships with stakeholders.
  • Climate Reporting: Propose strategies to enhance transparency in climate methodologies and support CBD’s contributions to climate reporting.
  • Communications and Positioning: Collaborate with the Communications team to craft compelling narratives about IFC’s climate initiatives and develop targeted communication materials that articulate IFC’s commitments to climate finance and Paris Alignment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in climate or environment policy, sustainable finance, development economics, or a related field. A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in climate, sustainable finance, or development in emerging markets is required. Candidates should have an in-depth understanding of climate issues, climate risk, and Paris Alignment frameworks, as well as familiarity with IFC’s Sustainability Framework. Demonstrated experience in managing complex stakeholder relationships and leading multi-stakeholder dialogues is essential. Strong strategic thinking skills and the ability to drive institutional change are also required, along with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in a relevant field such as climate or environment policy, sustainable finance, or development economics. This advanced degree is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to address complex climate-related challenges and contribute effectively to the organization's strategic objectives.

Experience:
The position requires at least 10 years of professional experience in areas related to climate, sustainable finance, or development, particularly in emerging markets. This level of experience is crucial for understanding the complexities of climate finance, stakeholder engagement, and the implementation of strategic initiatives that align with the goals of the World Bank Group.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as strong written and oral communication skills are essential for effective stakeholder engagement and reporting. Additionally, proficiency in Spanish or French is preferred, as these languages can enhance communication with a broader range of stakeholders and partners in the climate finance sector.

Additional Notes:
