Job Overview:
The Legal Associate Program (LAP) at AIIB is designed to train young lawyers to address the legal needs of the bank for both private and public sector operations. The program aims to identify, hire, grow, and develop young talents who are passionate about international development. The LAP is a two-year contract position based in Beijing within the Legal Department (LEG). Legal Associates (LAs) will undergo intensive training both on-the-job and in classroom settings, focusing on the fundamentals of lawyering in the context of development operations. The program is rotational, allowing LAs to work in each of the three units of the Legal Department: Institutional and Administrative, Public Sector Operations, and Private Sector Investment and Treasury Operations. This structure enables LAs to gain diverse experience and build networks across AIIB. Additionally, LAs may participate in field missions to assist senior lawyers, gaining firsthand experience in the bank's legal operations and client engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Legal Associates will contribute to the work program of the Legal Department's various units while building knowledge and networks across AIIB. They will engage in drafting legal documents, conducting Legal Research, and providing legal advice under the supervision of senior lawyers. LAs will also assist in the preparation of legal opinions and reports, participate in meetings with clients, and support the development of legal frameworks for AIIB-financed projects. They may be involved in identifying and analyzing legal issues, mitigating legal risks, and implementing solutions to operational challenges. Furthermore, LAs will attend Training Programs organized by the Human Resources Department on operational themes relevant to AIIB's mission.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced Law degree (Master’s/LLM/JD) from a recognized educational institution. They should have a minimum of two years of full-time, relevant legal professional experience and must be admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction. Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Candidates should demonstrate a passion for development and a commitment to AIIB’s mission. Additionally, candidates must exhibit professional independence, maturity, and the ability to operate in a multicultural environment.
Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced law degree, which can be a Master’s degree, LLM, or JD, from a recognized institution. This educational background is essential to ensure that candidates have the necessary legal knowledge and skills to perform effectively in the role.
Experience:
