Job Overview: The Climate-Resilient Education Intern will support the Climate-Resilient Education team by providing entry-level, learning-focused assistance to the Global CRE portfolio. This role involves coordination, documentation, knowledge management, and basic research related to climate-resilient education. The internship is designed to offer practical exposure to UNICEF’s global education and climate work while supporting ongoing initiatives and internal knowledge-sharing efforts. The intern will work under the supervision of the Education & Climate lead, contributing to effective coordination and learning across teams.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for various foundational and supportive tasks, including:
Coordination and Administrative Support: Organizing and tracking incoming requests related to climate-resilient education work, scheduling meetings, maintaining shared folders, and updating internal platforms with CRE materials.
Documentation and Knowledge Management: Documenting activities related to climate-resilient education initiatives, summarizing key discussion points, and contributing to technical materials.
Research and Learning Support: Conducting light desk-based research on climate-resilient education topics, preparing background notes, and compiling examples and lessons learned.
Internal Engagement and Learning Activities: Supporting internal learning activities, gathering feedback on CRE materials, and assisting with basic communications related to CRE activities.
Green Skills and Youth-Led Climate Action Support: Researching and documenting green skills within climate-resilient education initiatives and compiling examples of youth-led climate action linked to education.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in or have graduated within the past two years from an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. program in a relevant field such as education, climate change/environmental studies, international development, social sciences, public policy, or sustainability. Relevant experience in related fields, such as academic research projects, coursework, volunteering, internships, or student initiatives, is required. Prior professional experience in related fields is considered an asset.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is essential, with candidates expected to have completed or be enrolled in programs related to education, climate change, environmental studies, international development, social sciences, public policy, or sustainability. This educational foundation will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to the Climate-Resilient Education team.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in a related field, which may include academic research projects, coursework related to education, climate, or development, as well as volunteering, internships, or student initiatives. Prior professional experience in related fields is an asset, indicating a preference for candidates who have practical exposure to the subject matter.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse international environment.
