Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) was established to promote sustainable development of human settlements and policies conducive to adequate housing for all. The organization works with various levels of government, civil society, and the private sector to transform cities into safer, more inclusive, and resilient places. UN-Habitat has a significant presence in Brazil, particularly through its Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) based in Rio de Janeiro. The agency has expanded its portfolio in Brazil by collaborating with government tiers to implement effective urban policies. Since September 2023, UN-Habitat has been involved in a project with the State Government of Rio de Janeiro aimed at enhancing urban resilience and achieving sustainable urban development goals.

Job Overview:
The Urban Agent will report to the Head of the Brazil Office and will work closely with UN-Habitat’s operational and technical teams. The primary function of this role is to support the implementation of a project focused on urban resilience in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The Urban Agent will engage with youth participants in creative activities related to environmental sustainability and urban resilience, helping them recognize local challenges and opportunities. The role involves organizing participatory activities, maintaining participant engagement, and supporting community discussions. The Urban Agent will also assist in documenting activities and reporting on engagement levels, contributing to the overall success of the project aimed at localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Urban Agent will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: 1) Providing support to youth participants in creative activities related to environment and urban resilience. 2) Assisting participants in identifying local challenges and opportunities. 3) Organizing participatory activities such as community discussions and mapping exercises. 4) Maintaining engagement among participants and following up on activities. 5) Supporting youth groups during idea development processes. 6) Facilitating participatory mapping activities to identify socio-environmental issues. 7) Encouraging collaboration and inclusive participation among participants. 8) Compiling inputs from workshops and group activities. 9) Observing and reporting on participation levels. 10) Supporting awareness-raising activities on environmental sustainability. 11) Recording information for reporting purposes. 12) Assisting in project activities under the guidance of the project team. 13) Performing additional duties as requested by the supervisor. 14) Participating in missions as required. The Urban Agent will also be responsible for completing required training courses, including a security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course from UNDSS.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with two additional years of relevant technical experience. A minimum of one year of experience in supporting workshops and educational activities related to public space design in Brazil is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate an interest in community initiatives related to urban issues, environment, or local development. Experience in engaging with youth groups, schools, or community organizations is also desirable. Familiarity with community outreach efforts and local engagement activities is beneficial. Candidates should have a basic understanding of topics such as public space, sustainability, and urban development. Previous experience within the UN System is a plus.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma. Candidates with additional relevant technical experience beyond the diploma requirement will be considered favorably. The role does not specify advanced degrees, but relevant experience in urban development or related fields may enhance a candidate's application.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of one year of relevant experience, particularly in supporting workshops and educational activities related to public space design. Candidates should have demonstrated involvement in community initiatives and experience in engaging with youth and community organizations. Experience in project management, monitoring, and evaluation within an inter-institutional environment is also beneficial. Familiarity with urban governance and local development strategies is desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is required for this position, as it is essential for engaging with local communities and participants. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, while Spanish is the working language of the Regional Office. Proficiency in English and/or Spanish would be advantageous but is not mandatory for this role.

Additional Notes:
The Urban Agent position is a consultancy role expected to last for six months. The consultant will be responsible for their own security and must familiarize themselves with United Nations security protocols. The position is open to nationals from Brazil or external candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil. The contract may be extended based on performance and availability of funds. The consultant will receive a monthly allowance upon approval of activity reports by the Head of Brazil Office.
