Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer Specialist will be integrated into the Child Rights Monitoring and Evaluation (CRME) Unit within UNICEF Bosnia and Herzegovina. This role is pivotal in enhancing child rights monitoring mechanisms and ensuring that children's voices are included in national strategies and policies. The specialist will work on mainstreaming child rights into development strategies and public policies, supporting institutional mechanisms for child rights, and facilitating coordination among key stakeholders. The position requires a proactive approach to improve child rights monitoring and reporting, ensuring that data and evidence are utilized effectively to inform public discourse and policy development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the UN Volunteer Specialist include supporting the integration of child rights into national and subnational strategies, assisting in the planning and coordination of child-focused strategies, and providing technical expertise for reporting processes to international bodies. The specialist will also facilitate knowledge exchange among institutions, assist in capacity-building activities, and contribute to data collection and analysis relevant to child rights. Additionally, the role involves organizing consultations and workshops, developing advocacy materials, and documenting lessons learned to enhance national child rights monitoring efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong analytical and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. A solid understanding of child rights and relevant international frameworks is essential. The role requires proficiency in data management and the ability to translate complex information into accessible formats for diverse audiences. Candidates should also exhibit adaptability and a commitment to promoting children's rights.

Educational Background:
A degree in social sciences, international relations, human rights, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees are preferred, particularly for roles involving policy development and advocacy. Relevant certifications in child rights or monitoring and evaluation are advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of professional experience in child rights monitoring, evaluation, or related fields. Experience working with governmental and non-governmental organizations, particularly in the context of child rights, is highly desirable. Familiarity with international human rights frameworks and reporting processes is also beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in local languages such as Bosnian, Croatian, or Serbian is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages can be an asset, particularly for roles involving communication with diverse stakeholders.

The position is a full-time role based in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Selected candidates may be subject to vaccination requirements in line with the host entity's policies. The living conditions in Sarajevo are generally good, with adequate medical facilities, public transportation, and essential services available.
