Established to address the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions, the Hub focuses on integrating policy, technology, and financial strategies to foster sustainable economic development. The organization aims to ensure that 500 million additional people gain access to sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy by 2025, emphasizing inclusivity and leaving no one behind. The Hub operates under the broader mission of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which has made sustainable energy a core component of its 2022-2025 Strategic Plan. The DIP aims to convert data and energy knowledge into actionable intelligence for countries, enhancing decision-making and capacity building. The volunteer will focus on ensuring that the mobile experience is user-friendly, allowing quick access to insights, learning content, and interactive features. This role is crucial for facilitating on-the-go access, fieldwork, and informal learning, thereby making energy knowledge more accessible to UNDP staff, policymakers, and national stakeholders. The volunteer will contribute to creating a platform that supports informed and coordinated energy-for-development actions, aligning with the priorities of various countries.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the design team to create a mobile-friendly interface for the Digital Intelligence Platform.
  • Ensure that key features and content are optimized for smaller screens, maintaining clarity and intuitiveness.
  • Conduct user testing to gather feedback on the mobile experience and make necessary adjustments.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and incorporate their feedback into the design process.
  • Assist in developing user journeys that facilitate quick access to insights and learning materials.
  • Support the integration of interactive elements that enhance user engagement.
  • Document design processes and decisions for future reference and improvements.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for enhancing the platform's functionality and user experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of user experience (UX) design principles, particularly for mobile applications.
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Adobe XD, Sketch, or Figma.
  • Basic knowledge of web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
  • A passion for sustainable energy and development issues is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A background in design, user experience, information technology, or a related field is preferred. Candidates pursuing or holding a degree in these areas will be considered favorably. Knowledge of sustainable development and energy systems will be an added advantage.

Experience:
Previous experience in UX/UI design, particularly for mobile applications, is highly desirable. Candidates with experience in working on digital platforms or projects related to sustainable energy or development will be given preference. Familiarity with user testing and feedback incorporation processes is also beneficial.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the regions served by UNDP, is considered a plus and may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and the duration of the contract may vary based on project needs. The role is designed to be flexible, allowing for part-time engagement.
