Job Overview:
The IC-Biodiversity Specialist position is designed to support UNDP's initiatives in biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of natural resources. The specialist will be responsible for providing expert advice and technical support in the field of biodiversity, ensuring that projects align with national and international biodiversity strategies. The role requires a deep understanding of ecological principles and biodiversity management practices, as well as the ability to engage with stakeholders at various levels. The specialist will work closely with project teams to develop strategies that promote biodiversity conservation while also considering socio-economic factors. This position is expected to last for a period of 60 days spread across 5 months, during which the specialist will contribute to the successful implementation of biodiversity-related projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the IC-Biodiversity Specialist include but are not limited to: conducting assessments of biodiversity resources, developing and implementing biodiversity management plans, providing technical guidance on biodiversity conservation practices, collaborating with local communities and stakeholders to promote sustainable use of biodiversity, preparing reports and documentation related to biodiversity projects, ensuring compliance with national and international biodiversity regulations, and participating in capacity-building activities for local stakeholders. The specialist will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of biodiversity initiatives and making recommendations for improvements.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in biodiversity conservation, ecology, or a related field. A proven track record of working on biodiversity projects, particularly in developing countries, is essential. The ideal candidate should have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to non-expert audiences. Familiarity with biodiversity policies and frameworks at both national and international levels is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in biodiversity conservation, environmental science, ecology, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in biodiversity management or conservation biology will be considered an asset. Candidates should also have a solid understanding of ecological principles and biodiversity assessment methodologies.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in biodiversity conservation or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs on biodiversity projects is highly preferred. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively and work with diverse stakeholders, including local communities, government officials, and other partners.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly local languages spoken in the project areas, would be considered an advantage. Proficiency in technical writing and the ability to prepare reports in English is essential for this position.

Additional Notes:
This is a contract position for a duration of 60 days, spread over a period of 5 months. The role is classified as an individual contractor position, and candidates should be prepared to work flexibly to meet project deadlines.
