Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer for Data Analysis is integral to UNDP Kenya's digital transformation strategy, which emphasizes the importance of data management and analysis in enhancing operational efficiency and transparency. The volunteer will work under the supervision of the Head of ICT and collaborate closely with various teams, including ICT, Finance, Procurement, and HR. The primary functions of this role include supporting the design and development of interactive dashboards and reports, cleaning and analyzing data to generate actionable insights, and contributing to the automation and optimization of reporting processes. The volunteer will also connect to multiple data sources, build user-friendly dashboards using Power BI, and ensure that data is presented in an intuitive and accessible manner. This role is essential for bridging the gap between technical data handling and strategic decision-making, ultimately contributing to more informed operations and strategies within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Online Volunteer for Data Analysis include:
  • Supporting the design, development, and maintenance of interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI.
  • Assisting in the cleaning, transforming, and analyzing of data to generate actionable insights that can inform decision-making.
  • Contributing to the automation and optimization of reporting processes to enhance efficiency.
  • Connecting to multiple data sources, including Excel, SQL databases, APIs, and cloud services, to gather relevant data for analysis.
  • Building interactive dashboards and reports that include various visual elements such as charts (bar, line, pie), tables, matrices, slicers, filters, maps, and KPIs.
  • Designing dashboards with a focus on user experience, ensuring consistent layout, intuitive navigation, and appropriate color themes.
  • Scheduling data refreshes via Power BI Service to ensure that dashboards reflect the most current data.
  • Providing general administrative and ICT support to the ICT unit as required.
  • Documenting data sources, transformations, and business logic to maintain transparency and clarity in data handling. 1
  • Sharing dashboards with stakeholders and managing access through workspaces and row-level security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security (RLS). 1
  • Providing weekly status updates and preparing a final presentation/report summarizing the work completed during the volunteer period.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Online Volunteer for Data Analysis include:

  • Strong understanding of data cleaning, transformation, and analysis techniques.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position typically includes a degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, or a related discipline. Candidates with a strong foundation in data analysis, data visualization, and information systems will be preferred. Additional certifications in data analysis tools or methodologies may also be advantageous.

Experience:
The level of experience needed for the Online Volunteer for Data Analysis is generally entry-level to intermediate.
