Job Overview:
The SOC Assistant position is integral to the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Operations Centre (SOC), which serves as a vital resource for ensuring the safety and security of personnel, assets, and operations under the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS). The SOC Assistant will be responsible for monitoring and coordinating communications related to security, facilitating the flow of information during emergencies, and supporting the overall security management framework. This role requires a calm demeanor and the ability to respond effectively to urgent situations, as the SOC Assistant will often be the first point of contact for personnel in need of assistance. The position demands a proactive approach to monitoring security developments and disseminating critical information to ensure the safety of UN personnel and operations in Syria.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The SOC Assistant will perform a variety of duties including: assisting in the provision of security management support to facilitate effective program delivery; receiving, transmitting, and relaying security messages on behalf of senior security personnel; monitoring news and media sources continuously to disseminate timely security updates; utilizing the Security Communications System (SCS) to track field missions; verifying the operational status of the SCS; conducting personnel headcounts as directed; recording security incidents in a centralized database; maintaining updated contact information for UNSMS personnel; responding to safety and security incidents; and contributing to knowledge networks within the organization. The role also involves supporting the implementation of the Security Plan and ensuring that management is informed about security matters affecting the country office and its personnel.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess secondary education (high school diploma) as a minimum requirement. A university degree in Military Studies, Security Management, IT, Management, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory. The role requires solid computer skills, particularly proficiency in MS Office Suite and other relevant software, as well as experience with radio, satellite, and web-based communications. Candidates should have experience in drafting reports and using Google Maps, and prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is highly desirable. Knowledge of the local duty station is also beneficial.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes at least a high school diploma. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Military Studies, Security Management, IT, or Management is advantageous but not a strict requirement. The emphasis is on practical experience and skills relevant to security operations and management.

Experience:
The SOC Assistant position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience for candidates with a high school diploma, or at least 1 year of experience for those holding a bachelor's degree. Experience in security management or a related field is essential, along with a strong background in information management and processing. Familiarity with security incident management and monitoring is also important for this role.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. This bilingual requirement is crucial for effective communication within the diverse environment of the United Nations and its operations in Syria.
