European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) About
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. They use the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter – the fundamental particles.
Job Description
Job Posting Organization: CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, was established in 1954 and is one of the world's largest and most respected centers for scientific research. With a mission to uncover the fundamental structure of the universe, CERN employs thousands of scientists, engineers, and support staff from over 100 countries. The organization operates in multiple countries, primarily in Europe, and is known for its groundbreaking work in particle physics, utilizing the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study fundamental particles and their interactions.
Job Overview: As a Junior Asset Manager within the Maintenance and Operation section of the Electrical Engineering Group (EN-EL) at CERN, you will be tasked with managing the representation of CERN's electrical network assets and their associated inventory within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS). This role is crucial for ensuring that the data related to the electrical infrastructure is accurate, complete, and operationally usable. You will be responsible for defining and implementing asset hierarchies, failure codes, and maintenance workflows, which are essential for the effective management of both installed equipment and spare parts. Your work will directly support the EN-EL team in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of CERN's electrical systems, which are vital for the organization's research activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: Your primary responsibilities will include supporting the Asset Management Lead in establishing and implementing an asset management policy and strategy for the electrical group. You will design a hierarchical structure and data model for asset representation in the CMMS, lead site surveys to gather asset data, and apply AI tools for processing where applicable. Additionally, you will enter and configure asset data in the CMMS, ensuring its accuracy, completeness, and traceability. You will also be responsible for ensuring data quality through audits and validation routines, managing failure codes to support fault analysis, and optimizing maintenance processes. Furthermore, you will assist maintenance managers in defining preventive tasks and schedules, provide training and technical support to users, maintain documentation on CMMS asset configurations, and develop dashboards and reports on asset status and maintenance history.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a good understanding of implementing, configuring, or administering a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), particularly in asset structuring and maintenance data modeling. A general knowledge of electrical assets such as transformers and MV/LV switchgear is also required. Experience in data collection and on-site surveys, ideally in collaboration with engineering and maintenance teams, is essential. Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, is necessary, along with familiarity with AI-based tools for data processing. Candidates must be fluent in spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learning the basics of the other language.
Educational Background: Applicants must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. It is essential that candidates have graduated within the last two years and have not previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract. Those without a university degree or with a PhD are not eligible for this position.
Experience: The position requires a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation. Candidates should have some experience or a solid understanding of asset management and maintenance data modeling, particularly in the context of a CMMS.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language being a requirement for the role.
Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, with a hybrid work flexibility option. The target start date for this position is January 1, 202
The role involves working in radiation areas, conducting interventions in underground installations, and may require a valid driving license. Candidates should be prepared to work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays as needed. Operations on electrical installations or in their vicinity require specific authorization, and candidates must obtain medical clearance due to occupational health risks associated with the position. The job reference is EN-EL-MO-2025-236-GRAE, and the field of work is Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
