Job Overview:
The Regional security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security and Safety Specialist for UN Women is responsible for overseeing security and safety management across the Asia and the Pacific and Arab States/North Africa regions. This role involves advising and supporting UN Women offices and personnel in their security responsibilities, ensuring compliance with UN security policies, and minimizing risks to personnel and operations. The specialist will provide technical support, manage security assessments, and liaise with local security organizations to enhance the safety of UN Women operations. The position requires a proactive approach to security management, including the development and implementation of security plans and training programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support and guidance to Country, Multi-Country, and Regional Offices on security matters.
  • Approve organizational missions and participate in the development of UN Women security policies.
  • Manage security evaluations and provide recommendations for residential security measures.
  • Track and analyze developing threats and risks to personnel safety.
  • Provide timely recommendations to senior management regarding risk prevention and mitigation.
  • Oversee security assessments and ensure adequate information collation.
  • Liaise with host government security organizations and participate in security management meetings.
  • Disseminate security information and maintain communication with UN Women Security Focal Points.
  • Develop and implement the UN Women Security Plan, including personnel lists and procurement of security services. 1
  • Monitor compliance with Security Risk Management Measures and report security incidents affecting UN Women. 1
  • Develop and conduct training courses on security awareness and preparedness. 1
  • Manage the security budget and provide guidance to security staff.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in management, security, business administration, law enforcement, international relations, or a related field.
  • A first-level university degree with additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of a master's degree.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in security, with at least 2 years in a regional security role.
  • Experience in conducting security risk assessments and budget management related to field security support is required.
  • Experience in implementing business continuity programs and disaster/conflict surge support is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the UN Security Management System is advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as management, security management, or international relations. A first-level university degree combined with extensive experience in security management may also be considered. Specialized training in security management, such as military or police senior command training, is beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in security, with at least 2 years in a regional security role. Candidates should have experience in conducting security assessments and managing budgets related to security operations. Experience in business continuity planning and disaster response is also important, along with familiarity with the UN Security Management System.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered desirable and may enhance a candidate's profile.

The position is based in Cairo, Egypt, with potential travel beyond assigned regions as required. The role involves full-time engagement with responsibilities that may extend to various UN Women offices.
