UN Women was established in July 2010 as part of the UN reform agenda, aimed at consolidating resources and mandates for greater impact on gender equality and women's empowerment. The organization merges the work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system that focused on gender issues. The organization is committed to promoting systemic change and integrating violence prevention into laws and policies.

Job Overview:
The National Communications Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting UN Women’s efforts to implement the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This position involves planning, coordinating, and executing visibility and communications activities aimed at raising awareness about gender-based violence, particularly technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV). The consultant will be responsible for developing a comprehensive communication strategy, creating engaging content for various media platforms, and ensuring effective advocacy for stronger laws and improved services for victims. The role requires collaboration with the EVAW team and UN Women BiH Communications Associate to ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all campaign materials. The consultant will also monitor the campaign's impact to ensure broad visibility and effective advocacy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Developing a comprehensive strategy and workplan for the 16 Days of Activism campaign, ensuring alignment with global themes and key messages.
  • Creating a minimum of ten communications products such as infographics, quote cards, and videos, with appropriate social media copy.
  • Supporting the development of knowledge products like factsheets and advocacy briefs.
  • Assisting in organizing campaign-related events, including media outreach and press conferences.
  • Preparing a consolidated communications report summarizing visibility actions and media coverage.
  • Coordinating with the EVAW Protection Coordinator and other team members to ensure message consistency.
  • Providing additional support as necessary to ensure the campaign's success.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. The consultant should have at least 4 years of demonstrated work experience in communications, including media relations, and at least 2 years of experience managing media campaigns and online outreach. Experience in producing communication materials for various media and using web editing tools and social media platforms is also required. Experience in promoting gender issues and working with women is considered an asset, as is previous experience within the UN System.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may also be accepted. Candidates must provide a professional writing sample from previous projects or campaigns as part of their application.

Experience:
The position requires at least 4 years of relevant work experience in communications, with a strong emphasis on media relations and campaign management. Candidates should have a proven track record of producing communication materials and managing online outreach efforts. Experience in the international development sector, particularly in promoting gender issues, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English and B/H/S is mandatory, with excellent spoken and written skills. Candidates must provide a professional writing sample to demonstrate their communication abilities.

  • The consultant may need to be present at UN Women premises in Sarajevo and will be required to travel to field locations for campaign events. All travel expenses will be covered by UN Women.
