Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in enhancing UNICEF's fundraising efforts in the East Asia and Pacific Region. This position involves conducting in-depth research on strategic engagement with foundations, philanthropic intermediaries, high net worth individuals, and private sector events in Asia. The consultant will be responsible for generating tailored research to identify new philanthropic prospects, providing strategic recommendations for high-value prospects, and evaluating local private sector events. The role also includes analyzing regional diaspora to support revenue generation and developing communication materials to position UNICEF as a partner of choice. The consultant will work remotely, with a requirement for one trip to Bangkok to present findings and recommendations to regional and country offices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct tailored research to support Country Offices in generating revenue by identifying new foundations and philanthropic prospects.
  • Provide comprehensive strategy recommendations for high-value prospects and evaluate local private sector events.
  • Support the design and setup of giving circles in appropriate markets and track KPIs for major donors.
  • Research and analyze regional diaspora, particularly focusing on Chinese and Indian high net worth individuals, to develop a regional diaspora strategy.
  • Evaluate prominent regional private sector events and provide strategic preparation support for UNICEF's engagement.
  • Develop regionally appropriate communication materials and guidance for engaging with private sector audiences.
  • Consult with Philanthropy Officers to evaluate and improve the current regional partnership recognition framework.
  • Provide strategic evaluation and support to advance relationships with intermediaries such as wealth advisors and donor advised funds.
  • Curate capacity building workshops to increase income generation for country offices.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Business, Finance, Social Sciences, or equivalent professional experience in fundraising or philanthropy. A first-level university degree combined with relevant experience may be accepted. Candidates should have a minimum of six years of progressively responsible international work experience in business, finance, social sciences, or non-profit fundraising. Familiarity with UNICEF's mandate and prior experience with UNICEF or UN agencies is advantageous. Strong understanding of the philanthropy landscape in Asia is essential.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in Business, Finance, Social Sciences, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree may be accepted in combination with qualifying experience. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in fundraising, finance, or non-profit philanthropy.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience in major donor fundraising and working with philanthropic intermediaries or financial institutions. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the philanthropy landscape in Asia and have experience in international work settings. Familiarity with UNICEF's operations and programs is considered a strong asset.

Languages:
Fluency in verbal and written English is mandatory for this position. Competency in reading Mandarin or another Asian language is beneficial for research purposes but is not a requirement.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration is from 15 December 2025 to 28 February 2027, with full-time engagement for 12 months. The consultant will work remotely, with one required trip to Bangkok for a five-day presentation of research and strategic recommendations.
