Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is part of the SIMPI II project, which aims to support the implementation of regional policies on migration and displacement within the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) region. The project focuses on providing comprehensive solutions for migrants and refugees in the Horn of Africa through four main components: migration policy, refugee policy, cross-border cooperation, and learning and knowledge management. Interns will gain a strong understanding of operational processes related to project management and communication in a highly political context. The role involves supporting various project activities, including data collection, external communication, and research, which are crucial for the project's success and the overall mission of GIZ.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an intern, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the project's objectives. These include assisting the monitoring and evaluation specialist in data collection, creating short technical articles for external communication such as websites, blogs, and social media, and developing project posters. You will conduct background research to support project activities, particularly focusing on organizations led by women refugees in the IGAD region, analyzing their roles and contributions to their communities. Additionally, you will collaborate with developers to design and implement a comprehensive database for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates, update project documents, and support any other project-relevant tasks as identified by project management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be currently pursuing a Master’s degree in fields such as public relations, international cooperation, political science, economics, or forced displacement and migration. Alternatively, applicants who have completed their studies no more than six months prior to the internship start date are also eligible. A strong interest in development policy and an understanding of the challenges related to forced displacement and migration in the global south are essential. Initial experience in development cooperation, proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel), and familiarity with videoconferencing platforms are also required. Candidates should be well-organized, capable of working independently, and enjoy teamwork.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should be pursuing or have recently completed a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as public relations, international studies, political science, economics, or forced displacement and migration. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of the project and contributing effectively to its goals.
Experience: Candidates should have initial experience in development cooperation, which can be gained through internships, study abroad programs, or related activities. This experience is important for understanding the operational context of the internship and the challenges faced in the field of migration and displacement.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and spoken skills required. Knowledge of an additional language, such as German or French, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's ability to communicate effectively within the project and with diverse stakeholders.

GIZ offers a monthly stipend of €2,205.04 (gross), and depending on the country of assignment, a monthly expatriation allowance may also be provided.
