Job Overview:

  • Interns will work under the supervision of a senior member of the Legal Department, engaging in projects that align with the department's work program and the intern's interests. The projects may involve a variety of legal issues, including but not limited to corruption's impact on sovereign lending, regulatory approaches to insider trading, international law issues related to monetary and financial law, and the implications of digital money on financial integrity and anti-money laundering efforts. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to significant legal research and analysis that supports the IMF's mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be tasked with conducting legal research and analysis on various topics relevant to the IMF's work. This may include analyzing the impact of corruption on sovereign debt, reviewing regulatory frameworks in financial centers, researching international law issues, and assessing the implications of sanctions programs. Interns will also be expected to analyze domestic legal frameworks concerning non-bank financial institutions and evaluate the implementation of governance and corruption diagnostics across different countries. The role requires strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex legal information into clear and concise reports.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be within one or two years of completing their L.L.M., J.D., or an equivalent degree in law. They should be in student status, meaning they must be returning to university after the internship. Additionally, candidates should not exceed 32 years of age. An excellent command of English, both written and oral, is essential, along with strong quantitative and computer skills. The ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment is also important.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a law degree, specifically an L.L.M., J.D., or an equivalent qualification. This educational background is crucial as the internship involves complex legal research and analysis that requires a solid understanding of legal principles and frameworks.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not explicitly required, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or internships in legal research or related fields.
