Job Overview: The Project Analyst – Human Rights position is integral to the Strengthening Institutional Policies and Services (SIPS) Project, which focuses on advancing SDG 16, which emphasizes peace, justice, and strong institutions. The role involves collaborating closely with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and other stakeholders to enhance the capacity of public institutions, improve governance, and promote human rights. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing project activities, advocating for human rights, and ensuring effective communication among stakeholders. Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Analyst – Human Rights will report to the Project Manager and work in close coordination with the UNDP Democracy and Governance cluster. Key responsibilities include:
Providing technical support to strengthen NHRC’s institutional capacity, including staff training and legislative reform initiatives.
Liaising with various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and human rights defenders to foster collaboration and advocacy for human rights reforms.
Supporting the implementation of capacity development initiatives, awareness campaigns, and media engagement to promote human rights.
Monitoring the progress of consultants and vendors engaged under the NHRC component to ensure timely and quality delivery of services.
Contributing to knowledge management by documenting lessons learned and preparing reports for UNDP and development partners.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Law, Human Rights, Development Studies, International Relations, Social Sciences, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the aforementioned areas combined with two additional years of relevant experience will be considered. Proven experience in human rights, governance, or institutional development is essential, along with a track record in project implementation and stakeholder engagement.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as Law, Human Rights, Development Studies, International Relations, or Social Sciences. A bachelor's degree in these areas, combined with additional qualifying experience, may also be acceptable. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of human rights issues and governance.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for candidates with a master's degree or 4 years for those with a bachelor's degree. Experience should focus on human rights, governance, or institutional development, particularly in partnership with governance and policy projects. Familiarity with National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) and experience in project monitoring and evaluation are highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English and Bangla is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, as it can enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the effectiveness of advocacy efforts.
