Job Overview:
The Linux Systems Administrator position within the Section of Support to Research (SSR) at IARC is crucial for maintaining and developing IT services that support the agency's scientific objectives. The role involves managing Linux-based platforms, ensuring system integrity and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and providing administrative support for IT services. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the infrastructure officer and will be responsible for operating Linux environments, developing automation tools, and providing training and support to advanced IT users. This position is integral to the smooth operation of IT services, contributing to the overall mission of IARC in cancer research.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Services Operation and Administration: Operate and maintain Linux-based platforms, ensuring high standards through automation. Responsibilities include managing containerized infrastructure, applying security updates, troubleshooting service issues, and monitoring IT resources.
  • Service Development: Design and implement new services and systems automation in line with the ITS Roadmap, including further development of containerized infrastructure and automation tools.
  • Training and Support: Provide training and L2/L3 support to IT users, create user documentation, and track support requests.
  • Scientific IT platform operation: Collaborate with the SIT Administrator for managing shared systems and contribute to the development of the Scientific IT platform.
  • Perform any other related technical duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
Essential qualifications include strong knowledge of Linux systems and services, familiarity with container technology (Docker), and experience with configuration management tools and infrastructure automation (Ansible, Puppet). Proven communication skills in a multidisciplinary team are also essential. Desirable qualifications include experience with virtualization technologies, cloud-based infrastructure, scripting skills in Bash/YAML/Python, and knowledge of advanced data storage technologies.

Educational Background:
The position requires completion of secondary school education along with two years of specialized studies in computer science, recognized by a diploma (BTS, DUT, license, license pro, or equivalent). A degree from an engineering school specialized in IT is desirable.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of combined professional experience with hardware and software stacks. Desirable experience includes large system deployment and automation, as well as user training and support.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English or French is mandatory, with working knowledge of the other language being advantageous.

Additional Notes:
The position offers a fixed remuneration of EUR 3,615 per month, net of income tax, and includes benefits such as various types of leave and allowances for dependent family members. Employment status is that of an international civil servant, and the position is subject to local recruitment, ideally filled by candidates residing within the local commuting area.
