Interns will engage with the Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unit (SPMU), contributing to critical tasks such as strategic analysis, priority-setting, and resource alignment. This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals and gain insights into the operations of the UN System. Interns will be involved in various workstreams, each focusing on different aspects of UN operations, including strategic coordination, data and digital innovation, crisis management, and management support. The internship is flexible, allowing for in-person, remote, or hybrid work arrangements, and can be part-time or full-time, with a commitment of three to six months. Candidates are encouraged to indicate their availability and preferred workstream in their applications, ensuring a tailored fit for both the intern and the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be assigned to at least one of the four key workstreams within the SPMU, each with specific duties: 1) In Strategic Coordination and Decision-Making, interns will assist in preparing for senior-level management meetings, contribute to analytics and background papers, and track decision implementation. 2) In the UN 2.0 Capabilities workstream, interns will help design and implement change management programs, manage community events, and support digital solutions. 3) In Risk, Fragility, and Crisis Management, interns will monitor global trends, contribute to the Global Risk Report, and assist in planning for fragile settings. 4) In Management Support, interns will analyze cross-cutting needs, support resource mobilization, organize meetings, and develop data visualizations for decision-making. This diverse set of responsibilities ensures that interns gain comprehensive exposure to the workings of the UN and contribute meaningfully to its mission.

Required Qualifications:

While prior internships or work experience are not mandatory, they are beneficial. Specific desired qualifications vary by workstream, including organizational skills, analytical thinking, proficiency in data analysis, and familiarity with digital tools.

Candidates should pursue studies relevant to their chosen workstream. For Strategic Coordination, fields such as Economics, Political Science, and International Relations are preferred. For UN 2.0 Capabilities, backgrounds in Business, Data Science, and Behavioral Science are ideal. Risk Management candidates should have studies in International Development or Security Studies, while Management Support candidates should focus on Management Information Systems or Business Analytics. This educational diversity ensures that interns bring valuable perspectives to their roles.

Experience:
While formal work experience is not required, most successful candidates have prior internships or a year or two of full-time work experience. This experience should ideally align with the UN's mission and the specific workstream the intern will be involved in. Interns are expected to leverage their training and education to contribute effectively to the UN's objectives during their internship.

Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is the second working language. Proficiency in additional languages may enhance a candidate's application but is not a requirement.

Additional Notes:
Interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations, and all costs related to travel, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Non-citizens may need to secure appropriate visas and work authorization before starting the internship. The UN emphasizes that there are no fees associated with the recruitment process, ensuring that all applicants are treated fairly and equitably.
