Job Overview: The consultant will support UNEP's work in Brazil, focusing on urban and peri-urban agriculture, food waste, and sustainable food systems. Duties and Responsibilities:
Support UNEP’s initiatives in Brazil related to urban and peri-urban agriculture, food waste, and sustainable food systems.
Strengthen partnerships with national and sub-national governments and relevant stakeholders.
Facilitate the sharing of lessons learned to support global agendas.
Engage in program and project implementation, ensuring alignment with UNEP's objectives.
Develop strategies and intervention plans at federal, state, and municipal levels.
Conduct assessments and evaluations of ongoing projects to ensure effectiveness and sustainability.
Provide technical expertise in the biophysical and economic modeling of ecosystem services in the context of food systems.
Collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance the impact of UNEP's initiatives in Brazil.
Required Qualifications: An advanced university degree in Environmental Science, Social Science, Agricultural Science, Public Administration, Economics, Environmental Economics, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first university degree combined with two years of professional and academic qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A minimum of five years of professional working experience in program and project implementation in the field of urban and peri-urban agriculture and food systems, specifically in Brazil, is essential. Strong networking skills and experience in stakeholder engagement, strategy development, and intervention planning at various governmental levels in Brazil are desirable. An understanding of the Brazilian environmental, bioeconomy, agricultural, and nature-based solutions (NbS) political context is highly desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as Environmental Science, Social Science, Agricultural Science, Public Administration, Economics, or Environmental Economics. In cases where candidates hold a first university degree, they must also have two years of relevant professional and academic qualifications to be considered eligible for the position.
