Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) is an initiative launched by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in 2011, aimed at accelerating progress on the energy transition in emerging and developing countries. Hosted by UNOPS, SEforALL operates globally, partnering with governments and organizations to combat energy poverty, enhance energy efficiency, expand renewable energy, and address climate change. The organization envisions a world where everyone has access to sustainable energy, promoting policies, finance flows, and green jobs to achieve this goal. The Executive Office team supports the CEO/SRSG and leadership in implementing the organization's strategic direction and fostering collaboration across teams.

Job Overview:
The Executive Office Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Executive Office's operations. This position is designed for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in a professional, executive-level environment. The intern will assist in preparing background memos and pre-meeting materials, manage scheduling and correspondence, and provide logistical support for high-level diplomatic engagements. The internship aims to enhance the intern's written and oral communication skills, meeting management capabilities, and understanding of energy access and sustainable development issues, particularly related to Sustainable Development Goal
  • The intern will also gain insights into the role of SEforALL in global governance and policy-making, focusing on energy access and sustainability.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's primary responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the Executive Office with the preparation of background memos and pre-meeting materials to ensure effective communication and information dissemination.
  • Assisting other members of the Executive Office with scheduling meetings and managing incoming correspondence to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Providing logistical support for the SRSG’s diplomatic engagements, ensuring that all necessary arrangements are in place for successful meetings.
  • Conducting outreach to invitees for ministerial meetings, helping to coordinate attendance and participation.
  • Performing additional tasks and duties as required to support the Executive Office's objectives and initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants should be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated (within the last 3 years) with a First Level or Advanced University Degree (Bachelors, Masters, PhD, or equivalent) in fields such as Business Administration, Energy, Economics, Communications, Public Policy, International Relations, or related disciplines. While prior work experience is not mandatory, familiarity with the UN, governmental agencies, or international organizations is desirable. Knowledge of energy access and topics related to Sustainable Development Goal 7 is also advantageous.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this internship includes being currently enrolled in or having recently graduated with a relevant degree in fields such as Business Administration, Energy, Economics, Communications, Public Policy, International Relations, or similar areas. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern possesses the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the Executive Office's functions.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not a strict requirement for this internship, candidates with experience in the UN, governmental agencies, or other international organizations will be viewed favorably. Additionally, familiarity with energy access, transition, or Sustainable Development Goal 7 topics is considered a valuable asset that can enhance the intern's contributions to the team.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Candidates with a working knowledge of another official UN language will have an advantage, as it is considered an asset that can facilitate communication in a diverse, multilingual environment.

Additional Notes:
This internship is classified as a 12-month contract and is not intended to lead to any other form of employment with UNOPS. Interns may receive a monthly stipend according to UNOPS Internship policy, provided they do not receive funding from other institutions. The internship is designed to provide valuable experience without the expectation of future employment.
