Job Overview: The intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Communications Intern position at UNHCR's Joint Data Center on Forced Displacement is a full-time internship aimed at supporting the organization's mission through effective communication strategies. The intern will play a crucial role in managing social media channels, ensuring that content is aligned with the research and data produced by the Joint Data Center. The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of data, excellent communication skills, and a keen interest in issues related to refugees and development. The role requires the ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to the dynamic needs of the team. The internship is set to begin in November 2025 and will last for six months, with the possibility of a two-month extension.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: editing and proofreading technical documents that cover data and economics; updating the Literature Review Database; refreshing content on the JDC website; assisting team members in drafting and editing social media content, presentations, and web content; collaborating with colleagues to prepare and execute events and meetings, both internal and external; and performing other related tasks as required. This role is integral to ensuring that the Joint Data Center's communications are effective and impactful, contributing to the overall mission of improving the lives of affected populations.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this internship, candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria: they should be either recent graduates who have completed their studies within the last two years or current students enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program at an accredited university or higher education institution. Additionally, candidates must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant to UNHCR's work. It is important to note that candidates who have already exhausted the maximum cumulative internship period with UNHCR are not eligible. Furthermore, individuals with familial relationships to current UNHCR staff members or affiliates are also ineligible for this internship.
Educational Background: Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as Economics, Political Sciences, International Studies, Public Policy, Communications, Marketing, or similar disciplines. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern can effectively contribute to the work of the Joint Data Center and understand the complexities of forced displacement issues.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandatory, candidates with demonstrated interest or experience in forced displacement issues will be viewed favorably. Familiarity with social media tools and analytics, as well as experience with content management systems like Wordpress, will also enhance a candidate's application. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within an intercultural team is crucial for success in this role.
Languages: Candidates must display full command of written and oral English at a B2 level, which includes strong drafting skills. While English is the mandatory language, proficiency in additional languages relevant to UNHCR's work may be considered an asset, although not explicitly required.
Additional Notes: This internship is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours of work per week, with working hours from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Interns who do not receive financial support from external sources will receive an allowance to help cover living expenses, including food and transportation. Travel costs for interns coming from outside Denmark will be reimbursed for their journey to and from the duty station, subject to prior authorization. Internships typically last between two to six months, with the possibility of extension up to eight months for full-time internships. Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and health insurance, and they must provide proof of good health before commencing the internship.
