Job Overview: The Coordinator for the 2720 Mechanism will play a crucial role in managing and coordinating operations related to humanitarian aid in Gaza. This position involves overseeing the implementation of the 2720 Mechanism, which is designed to facilitate the provision of humanitarian relief to the 2.2 million residents of Gaza. The Coordinator will report directly to the Senior Project Manager and will be responsible for ensuring that operations are conducted effectively and in compliance with UN standards. This role requires a proactive approach to planning, coordination, and communication with various stakeholders, including local authorities, UN agencies, and humanitarian organizations. The successful candidate will need to maintain a comprehensive understanding of the political and operational landscape in Gaza, ensuring that humanitarian aid flows smoothly and efficiently to those in need.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Coordinator will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: effective planning and oversight of the 2720 Mechanism operations; coordinating the processing of humanitarian aid notifications; managing the daily workflow of UN Monitors; ensuring compliance with security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security and health standards; acting as a liaison with local authorities; overseeing the issuance of operational and donor reports; maintaining a comprehensive database of shipments; and keeping abreast of relevant developments in the region. The Coordinator will also be expected to conduct training activities for the UNHRM team and to perform any additional tasks as assigned by the Senior Project Manager. This position requires strong leadership skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a commitment to humanitarian principles.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree or equivalent in fields such as International Relations, Political Science, Law, or Business. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with extensive relevant experience may be accepted. A Technical/Professional Diploma with additional relevant experience or a Secondary Diploma with significant experience may also be considered. The position requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in humanitarian coordination or related fields, with at least 2 years in team management within an international context. Experience in post-conflict environments, liaising with Member States and donors, and coordinating complex operations is highly desirable.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include a Master’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant field. Candidates with a first-level university degree and extensive experience, or those with a Technical/Professional Diploma combined with relevant experience, may also be considered. The educational background should ideally align with the responsibilities of managing humanitarian operations and coordinating with various stakeholders.
Experience: The role requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in humanitarian coordination or related fields. Candidates should have at least 2 years of experience managing teams in an international context and must have worked in post-conflict or multicultural environments. Experience in liaising with Member States and donors, as well as previous UN or humanitarian experience, is preferred. Candidates should also have experience in briefing senior UN leaders and coordinating operations in conflict zones.
Languages: Fluency in written and oral English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic is considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the Coordinator's role in Gaza.

The initial contract duration is 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds. Candidates should be prepared for potential travel to non-family duty stations at short notice.
