The Driver will be responsible for maintaining the vehicle in optimal condition, including cleanliness and mechanical upkeep, and will report any issues to the supervisor promptly. Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide safe transportation for authorized personnel, ensuring compliance with UN safety and security rules and regulations.
Assist with basic translation of conversations from/to the local language as needed.
Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport or other entry points, assisting with visa and customs formalities.
Maintain accurate vehicle log books and report daily on the mechanical status of the vehicle to ensure efficient use and cost-effectiveness.
Ensure the assigned vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with necessary travel authorizations and supplies.
Report any mechanical issues to the supervisor immediately to ensure safety and efficiency.
Follow established rules for field deliveries and report any accidents or problems to the supervisor.
Perform basic office tasks such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores when required, including the delivery and collection of items and payment of office bills.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and certification to operate the assigned vehicle, adhering to local rules and regulations. A strong understanding of driving protocols, safety standards, and vehicle maintenance is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, and tact in all interactions. Knowledge of local roads, driving regulations, and safety equipment is crucial for this role. Additionally, candidates should have the ability to read and interpret safety documents and manuals, as well as basic skills in first aid and emergency assistance.
Educational Background: Completion of secondary school education is required for this position. Formal driver training is essential, along with a valid driver’s license that complies with local regulations. Experience: A minimum of two years of work experience as a Driver is required, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. Candidates should have a demonstrated safe driving record and experience driving various types of vehicles, including vans and trucks. Experience in defensive driving is highly desirable, as it contributes to the overall safety and efficiency of transportation services provided by WFP.
Languages: Fluency in the UN language used at the duty station is mandatory, along with proficiency in the local language if it differs. This ensures effective communication with personnel and local stakeholders, enhancing the overall efficiency of the role.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as a Service Contract (SC) at Grade SC2, with a contract duration of 12 months. The duty station for this role is Yaounde, Cameroon.
