Job Overview: The ILO internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme offers a unique opportunity for talented individuals to gain practical experience and enhance their understanding of international labor issues. Interns will be involved in the work of the ILO, particularly in the Decent Work in Supply Chains team under the Advancing Decent Work in Bangladesh (ADWIB) project. This role is designed to provide insights into the intersection of research, policy, and field-level implementation, focusing on promoting decent work and sustainable supply chains in Bangladesh. Interns will contribute to various thematic areas, including responsible business practices, trade and investment policy, and multi-stakeholder engagement. The internship is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO, and there is no expectation of further employment after the internship period.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be expected to conduct desk research and literature reviews on topics related to decent work and supply chain governance. They will collect, organize, and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data from field activities and stakeholder consultations. Drafting background notes, briefing materials, and concept notes to support programmatic and policy dialogues will also be part of their responsibilities. Additionally, interns will assist in preparing, coordinating, and documenting stakeholder meetings and workshops. They will support monitoring and reporting efforts, synthesizing key findings and lessons from pilot initiatives. Interns should expect to devote approximately 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks, while the majority will be focused on substantive research and engagement activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet specific criteria to apply for the internship. They should not have any close relatives serving in the ILO and must be applying for their first internship with the organization. A demonstrated interest or experience in labor rights, responsible business conduct, international trade, or sustainable supply chains is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Bangladeshi LDC context or similar development settings is an added advantage. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with online collaboration tools is required, along with experience using communications tools for digital content development being an asset.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a background in Development Studies, Public Policy, International Relations, Economics, Labour Studies, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or other relevant social sciences. They should be enrolled in their final year of a graduate degree program or have completed such a program no longer than one year ago.
Experience: The internship requires candidates to have some level of experience, particularly in areas such as research, data collection, policy analysis, or project support. Prior internships, academic projects, or consultancies in related fields will be considered an asset. A demonstrated interest in labor rights and sustainable economic development is also important.
Languages: Excellent command of English and Bangla, both oral and written, is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be beneficial but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: The internship is for a duration of six months and is based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Interns will receive a monthly stipend based on the cost of living in the area, unless they receive funding from another institution. Travel to the duty station will be at the intern's own expense. The ILO does not cover insurance costs for accidents or illness incurred during the internship, and interns are responsible for their own insurance coverage.
