Job Overview: The Vehicle Maintenance Officer is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive maintenance program for the agency's fleet of vehicles and electric generators. This includes scheduling regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs. The officer will supervise a team of mechanics, technicians, and administrative staff involved in vehicle and generator maintenance, assigning work tasks, providing guidance, and ensuring efficient workflow. The role also involves conducting technical training for workshop staff to enhance their skills and knowledge of new technologies and vehicle systems, while promoting a culture of safety. The officer will oversee the diagnosis and troubleshooting of vehicle or generator issues, ensuring accurate identification of problems and timely repairs. Additionally, the officer will maintain accurate job card data, prepare technical reports on maintenance activities, and manage the inventory of spare parts efficiently. The position requires ensuring that the fleet meets all legal requirements and environmental guidelines, and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance program for the fleet of vehicles and electric generators, including scheduling regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs.
Supervise a team of mechanics, technicians, and administrative staff involved in vehicle and electric generator maintenance.
Assign work tasks, provide guidance, and ensure efficient workflow among the team.
Conduct technical training for workshop staff to enhance their technical skills and knowledge of new technologies and vehicle systems.
Promote a culture of safety among workshop staff, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
Conduct regular safety training and address any safety concerns.
Oversee diagnosis and troubleshooting of vehicle or electric generator issues, ensuring accurate identification of problems and timely repairs.
Ensure maintenance and repair work is conducted in a cost-effective manner without compromising quality and safety.
Inspect and test vehicles before, during, and after repairs. 1
Maintain accurate job card data and post required spare parts on the Agency fleet systems, ensuring all master tables are up to date. 1
Prepare technical reports on vehicle maintenance activities, including costs, downtime, and repairs. 1
Implement key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess overall fleet performance and team efficiency, proposing recommendations for improvements in workshop operations. 1
Manage the inventory of spare parts efficiently, monitoring stock levels, placing orders, and inspecting received spare parts. 1
Ensure the fleet meets all legal requirements and environmental guidelines. 1
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Successful completion of Secondary Education.
Successful completion of a Vocational Training Course from a recognized institution in Auto Mechanic and/or Diesel Mechanic, preferably from an Agency Vocational Training Centre.
At least five years of experience as a mechanic, with a minimum of two years as Head Mechanic at a recognized vehicle maintenance workshop.
Sound knowledge of automotive vehicles, both gasoline and diesel-powered, based on technical training and/or experience covering all phases of automotive repair and maintenance services using modern tools and diagnostic equipment.
Sound knowledge of automotive repair parts and the use of manufacturers’ catalogues and workshop manuals.
Educational Background: The position requires successful completion of Secondary Education and a Vocational Training Course from a recognized institution in Auto Mechanic and/or Diesel Mechanic. Preference is given to candidates who have completed their training at an Agency Vocational Training Centre.
Experience: Candidates must have at least five years of experience as a mechanic, with at least two years in a supervisory role as Head Mechanic at a recognized vehicle maintenance workshop. This experience should encompass a comprehensive understanding of automotive repair and maintenance services, including the use of modern diagnostic tools and equipment.
Languages: For this position, proficiency in English and Arabic is required. English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in both reading and writing. Arabic is also required, with candidates expected to have a basic understanding of the language.
Additional Notes: The contract type is a Fixed Term Appointment for one year, including a one-year probation period, with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. The position is graded at Grade 11, with a starting monthly salary of USD 1,354.6, which includes a basic salary and a supplementary allowance. Additional benefits include a monthly Provident Fund contribution, compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and a dependency allowance if applicable. Employees are entitled to sick leave, maternity leave, and paternity leave. The incumbent may be required to travel within the Agency's area of operations. This vacancy is open to both internal and external candidates, but only those residing in Lebanon and authorized to work in the duty station at the time of application are eligible.
