Job Overview: The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Operations Assistant position involves performing a range of specialized and process-oriented responsibilities related to security operations within the World Food Programme. The role is critical in ensuring the safety and security of WFP staff and resources in the field. The job holder will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining security equipment, reviewing security threats and risks, and compiling reports to support decision-making processes. This position requires effective communication and coordination with local authorities, UN/NGO security staff, and other stakeholders to facilitate safe program delivery. The Security Operations Assistant will also assist in planning and conducting field missions, preparing security assessment reports, and implementing security risk management measures. The role demands a proactive approach to identifying security training needs and supervising staff to enhance their performance and development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in reviewing security threats and risks, compiling accurate reports on trends and situations that could adversely impact WFP operations.
Review security-related information and use corporate or local information management tools to provide analyses and reports for relevant stakeholders.
Liaise and coordinate with local administration, security and law enforcement authorities, communities, UN/NGO security staff, and other actors to facilitate access for safe program delivery.
Assist in planning, coordinating, preparing, and conducting field missions, including tracking staff and performing regular security assessments.
Prepare detailed security assessment reports after field missions with risk mitigation recommendations.
Assist in formulating advice to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director on security risk management matters and safety issues.
Implement all security risk management mitigating measures, including Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS).
Manage and maintain security equipment and identify new requirements to strengthen technology capacity.
Monitor access control procedures to ensure accountability and a safe environment. 1
Contribute to the development and update of emergency and contingency planning documentation. 1
Identify security training needs and support training planning and implementation. 1
Supervise and provide on-the-job training to other staff.
Required Qualifications: Completion of secondary school education is required, with a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area being desirable. Candidates should possess applied knowledge of security operations technical processes and have experience supporting security operations efforts. The ability to provide ad-hoc technical guidance to staff members is also necessary. Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
Educational Background: Candidates are required to have completed secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in a related functional area is desirable, indicating a foundational understanding of security operations and related processes.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of related job experience is required for this position. Candidates should have a proven track record in security operations, demonstrating their ability to handle security-related processes and activities effectively. Experience in liaising with local authorities and coordinating security measures is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English (level C) is mandatory for this position. Depending on the location of the post, fluency or intermediate knowledge of another official UN language may be required. For field positions, fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the local language, if different, is necessary.
