Job Overview:
This internship is designed for individuals interested in gaining practical experience within the United Nations, specifically in the Security Council Practices and Charter Research Branch of the Security Council Affairs Division (SCAD) in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA). The intern will engage in a variety of tasks that support the core functions of the branch, which include preparing the Repertoire of the Practice of the Security Council, providing guidance on Council practices, and assisting with documentation and outreach efforts. The position offers a unique opportunity to learn about the workings of the UN Security Council and contribute to important research and analysis related to international peace and security.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for conducting research on political issues relevant to the Security Council's agenda, assisting with documentation and cataloguing information, and drafting studies for the Repertoire of the Practice of the Security Council. Additional duties include supporting outreach efforts through social media content preparation, contributing to the development of computerized databases, and performing other tasks as required by the Chief of the Security Council Practices and Charter Research Branch. The intern will work under the supervision of experienced professionals, gaining insights into the operations of the UN and the Security Council.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to conduct research and draft reports, as well as proficiency in standard office software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of social media content production and monitoring is advantageous, along with familiarity with visualization tools like Power BI and Canva.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage. The educational background should ideally be in a field relevant to political science, international relations, or a related discipline that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required for this internship. However, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that demonstrates their ability to engage with the subject matter of the internship.
