The organization primarily relies on voluntary contributions from member states, but due to the increasing number of people fleeing conflict and persecution, fundraising from the private sector has become crucial. UNHCR's Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) plays a vital role in expanding the organization's funding base by raising funds from individual donors and private sector sources, ensuring a sustainable and predictable income stream for its programs.
Job Overview: The Assistant PPH Officer position is part of the Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) team within UNHCR's office in The Hague. This role focuses on securing support from major donors and foundations, managing existing relationships, and prospecting for new opportunities. The Assistant PPH Officer will work closely with the Netherlands PSP team and the broader PSP network to enhance private sector engagement and secure long-term income for UNHCR programs. The position offers an excellent opportunity to cultivate diverse relationships with major donors and foundations, contributing to the organization's mission of supporting refugees and displaced communities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant PPH Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: liaising with existing major donor and foundation contacts to build and cultivate relationships; providing excellent relationship management to ensure shared goals are met; identifying major donor and foundation prospects and building a qualified network; conducting prospect research; systematically engaging with prospects and tracking progress; developing compelling presentations and proposals; identifying middle donors with major donor potential; liaising with intermediary contacts; initiating and managing engagement projects; raising awareness of UNHCR among target groups; contributing to the implementation of the strategic plan for Private Partnerships & Philanthropy; supporting the PSP NL team in strengthening UNHCR's positioning; staying informed about the fundraising environment; and providing ad hoc support as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a completion of HBO+/University (equivalent to Bachelor’s) degree in Marketing, International Relations, Management, Business Administration, Economics, Law, Hotel Management, Journalism, Communications, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of one year of relevant job experience is required, particularly in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies with major donors and foundations. Experience with CRM systems, such as Salesforce, is an asset, as is experience with an international humanitarian NGO or UN organization.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is a completion of HBO+/University (equivalent to Bachelor’s) degree in a relevant field such as Marketing, International Relations, Management, Business Administration, Economics, Law, Hotel Management, Journalism, Communications, or similar disciplines. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary knowledge and skills to perform effectively in the role.
Experience: The position requires at least one year of previous job experience relevant to the functions of the role. Candidates should have proven experience in providing support for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques, particularly with major donors and foundations. Experience with CRM systems is advantageous, and familiarity with the operations of an international humanitarian NGO or UN organization is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in Dutch and English, both oral and written, is essential for this position. Candidates should possess strong communication skills to effectively engage with donors and present the organization's mission and operations. Additional languages may be considered a plus but are not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This position is associated with a yearly contract that is valid until the end of the year, with the possibility of renewal. It is a full-time role requiring 37.5 hours of work per week, with standard working hours from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday. The salary for this position ranges from €5,833 to €6,760 gross, in line with the local National Officer salary scale of the United Nations.
